CARS.COM — Mitsubishi has its sights set on selling 100,000 vehicles in 2016 and beyond, and the keys to hitting that goal, the automaker says, are crossovers and electric vehicles. “That’s what’s going to get us to the next levels in the U.S. market,” said Ken Konieczka, Mitsubishi Motors North America vice president of sales.
At a media event Thursday in Detroit, Mitsubishi laid out its plans through 2020. They include releasing a Mirage G4 sedan by early summer and a redesigned Outlander plug-in hybrid electric vehicle later this year. Also on the books are a new crossover based on the eX concept, which is slated for an early 2018 release, a redesigned Outlander for 2019 and a revised version of the smaller Outlander Sport for 2020.
“The plan is simple: It’s all about product,” Konieczka said to the media.
In 2015 Mitsubishi sold more than 95,000 cars and SUVs in the U.S., with the Outlander Sport accounting for nearly 37,000 in sales.
