All those folks that were fond of the Lincoln Zephyr released last year will probably like the 2007 Lincoln MKZ. That’s because it’s virtually the exact same car. Lincoln recently decided to use a new naming convention across its entire line — besides the Navigator SUV — so the Zephyr has been re-dubbed MKZ and will start at $29,175.

Lincoln significantly upgraded the powerplant in the MKZ to a 263-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and six-speed automatic transmission, a significant upgrade compared to the 2006 Zephyr’s 221-hp engine. The change in starting price between the two models is only a few hundred dollars. An early drive in the new MKZ didn’t offer complete sock-knocking thrills, but did deliver plenty of mid-range power.

Other big news for consumers is the addition of available all-wheel drive, which increases the starting price to $31,100. An MP3 audio jack and new 17-inch aluminum wheels are also added this year. The 2007 MKZ will start to arrive at dealerships next month.
