You’re driving along at a steady 55 mph in your Honda Civic, and all seems at peace in this part of northern Los Angeles County known as Lancaster. Little do you realize that the people inside the house you’re passing hate you and hate Honda.
This is because the road you’re driving on has been paved in such a way that it plays the William Tell Overture when Civics drive over it at the correct speed. The William Tell Overture is more widely known as the theme music from “The Lone Ranger.” Honda grooved a quarter mile of road this way as part of an ad campaign.
Shockingly, it turns out that residents do not enjoy hearing “The Lone Ranger” theme played over and over again on a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week loop. The campaign was just completed earlier this month, but Lancaster officials will repave the strip of road today.
