Pontiac G8 GXP Priced Under $40K
The 402-hp 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP finally has a price tag, and it’s going to give established performance sedans a run for their money. At $37,610, the GXP is more than $1,000 cheaper than a comparable Dodge Charger SRT8. It will go on sale in February 2009.
That money will buy you the most powerful Pontiac ever, with a 402-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 and 402 pounds-feet of torque. The car comes standard with a six-speed automatic transmission, but it’s also available with a six-speed manual for an additional $695.
If you think the 361-hp, $31,555 G8 GT already packs enough ponies under the hood, remember there’s more to the GXP than added horsepower. Underneath the unimposing exterior lies a track-tuned suspension and steering, massive Brembo brakes, and a unique interior.
If you plop down the dough for this Poncho, you’ll also have to cough up $1,700 in gas-guzzler taxes. Add in destination and you’ll still pay less than 40 grand for the GXP, but just barely: $39,995.
Some people have called the GXP a BMW M5 killer, and while we have yet to test that claim, the GXP is such a bargain you could buy a GXP for you and a friend and still pay less than you would for one M5.
