“Ferrarinut” from California says his recently purchased 2011 Ford Mustang makes for a great daily driver. The ride is generally smooth, except on rough pavement. This reader has tested the performance limits of the V-6 Mustang in a way we haven’t seen from other reviewers; we certainly hope it was done on a closed-circuit track. “Great daily driver! Very quiet ride if you want it to be, and can easily catapult itself onto the highway. Also provides very high cornering predictability and confidence. There is a bit of body roll, but that’s usually only at around 70 mph on 90-degree three-lane turns using the optimal cornering driving line.
“Extremely smooth ride at 80 mph while only revving just under 2,000 rpm at 6th gear. Capable of cruising at 100 mph smoothly with mild cross winds, also only revving at around 2,700-2,800 rpm at 6th gear. You may experience a little bit of panel vibration at around 120 mph. A little nose float at around 140 mph if it’s windy. Red line at 6,750 rpm.
“With 18-inch wheels that are also a bit wider than the standard 17-inch, you can have the limiter legally raised to 155 mph on the V-6 as opposed to 115 mph with the 17-inch eco tires. About a $2,000 upgrade, including wheels and tires.
“My only qualm is the stiff suspension and the live rear axle. If the roads you normally drive on are well maintained, the 2011 Mustang is as smooth as a ride can get; wander over to subpar roads, however, and you will know it very quickly.
“This car will have you looking forward to your commute to and from work every day if you enjoy the act of driving! All around a great everyday driving car, provided you are single and don’t like to caddy large groups of people around.”
