NC Reviewer from North Carolina is leasing a 2011 Hyundai Genesis. After putting more than 1,000 miles on the car, this reader is disappointed with it. There are a lot of small gripes and some major issues that prevents NC Reviewer from viewing the Genesis 3.8 as a proper luxury sedan. To find out why, continue reading below. “I expected a smooth-riding, upscale sedan, but what I got was a rough-riding vehicle, which lets me know about every little bump in the road. I cannot believe Hyundai bills this vehicle as a luxury sedan. Even Consumer Reports magazine warned about the “nervous” and unsettled ride of the Genesis. I assume the problem resides in either the suspension system and/or the tires. I plan on having the service department at the Hyundai dealership address my concerns.
“Why would Hyundai omit a significant safety feature such as daytime running lights from their upscale sedan? Also missing are “puddle” lights on the outside mirrors, a feature most upscale sedans have. There are just a couple small storage bins in the cabin. There should be more.
“The Home Link buttons on the rearview mirror are not backlit, which means if you are coming home in the dark and want to open your garage door, you have to feel around for the correct button and more likely than not you’ll put your finger on the mirror itself.
“There are numerous other little negatives in the Genesis, which unless you drive it for a while you won’t realize they exist. It appears Hyundai cut a lot of corners in designing this vehicle.
“Forget the Technology Package. It is very complicated. The “ultimate” navigation system – that is Hyundai’s own description – lacks text-to-speech (spoken street names), which is something most simple, portable GPS systems have. What that means is that you are constantly taking your eye off the road to look at the GPS screen; that’s not something you want to do.
“Gas mileage with the six-cylinder is averaging about 21 to 22 mpg. I expect less during the summer with the air conditioner running.
“The Lexicon stereo system is outstanding; the seating is very comfortable and the cabin is very roomy. The trunk is very large. Unfortunately, the ride is lousy.
“All in all, you can do much better than the Genesis. There is a lot more value in other comparably priced vehicles. Hyundai has a long way to go in the upscale car department.
“Unfortunately, I am stuck with this car for my three-year lease. I wish I could get out of it without taking a major financial hit.”
