Recall Alert: 2008-2011 Lotus Elise and Exige, 2011 Evora

Vehicles Affected: About 860 Lotus sports cars, including model-year 2008-11 Lotus Elises and Exiges manufactured between November 2007 and July 2011, and 2011 Evoras manufactured between September 2010 and September 2011

The Problem: The oil cooler hose may detach from its fitting, which could cause oil to spray on a tire, increasing the risk of a crash; oil also could spray throughout the engine compartment, increasing the risk of a fire. This is an expansion of previous recalls in 2008 and 2013.

The Fix: Lotus will notify owners, and dealers will replace the oil cooler hose fittings on Elises and Exiges, and will replace oil cooler hose assemblies on Evoras, for free. The automaker has not yet announced a notification schedule.

What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Lotus at 800-245-6887, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov for more info.
