Vehicles Affected: Approximately 19,000 model-year 2012-13 Suzuki SX4 cars manufactured between Sept. 3, 2011, and April 5, 2013
The Problem: Insufficient clearance between the power-steering pump body and the power-steering fluid control valve may result in improper movement of the valve, causing the power-steering pump to seize; this could cause a loss of power-steering assist, requiring extra steering effort at low speeds and increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix: Dealers will replace the power-steering pump for free.
What Owners Should Do: Suzuki will begin notifying owners on Oct. 9. Owners can call the automaker at 800-934-0934 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or go to www.safercar.gov, for more info.
