Vehicles Affected: Approximately 581,986 model-year 2013-14 Ford Escape compact crossovers manufactured Oct. 5, 2011, through April 10, 2014
The Problem: The exterior door handle and the door’s outer panel might not line up. This could make the affected doors difficult to close or allow them to open while the car is in motion, increasing the risk of an accident. Ford says that no related accidents or injuries have been reported.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the door-handle mounting and replace the affected parts for free.
What Owners Should Do: Ford will notify owners starting May 26. Owners can call Ford at 800-392-3673 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236 for more information.
