Recall Alert: 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark

Vehicles Affected: Nearly 90,000 model-year 2013-15 Chevrolet Spark subcompact hatchbacks manufactured between Jan. 17, 2012, and July 29, 2014

The Problem: The secondary hood latch may prematurely corrode at the latch pivot, causing the striker to get stuck out of position and preventing it from properly engaging the hood latch. If this happens, and the primary hood latch is not engaged, the hood could unexpectedly open while the car is in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.

The Fix: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the striker and latch with a new part that has superior corrosion protection; repairs will be made for free. The automaker has not yet provided a notification schedule.

What Owners Should Do: Owners can call Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov for more info.
