Recall Alert: 2016 Honda Civic

Vehicles Affected: Approximately 42,000 model-year 2016 Honda Civic sedans equipped with a 2.0-liter engine
The Problem: During assembly of the 2.0-liter engines, piston assembly manufacturing errors could have resulted in a missing or miss-set piston pin circlip. Engine vibration can cause an unsecured piston pin to move out of place and interfere with the engine cylinder wall, potentially resulting in a seized engine. A seized engine will cause unexpected deceleration and loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Engine block damage could also occur and allow for engine oil leakage, increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.
“Honda has received one report of an engine fire related to this issue and one separate unconfirmed report of a minor injury that did not require medical attention,” the automaker said in a statement.
The Fix: Dealers will inspect the engine pistons and repair any damaged components for free.
