CARS.COM — Honda today announced that the redesigned 2018 Odyssey minivan will debut on Jan. 9 at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It will be the fifth generation of the van, which will have “new powertrain technology, sophisticated styling and showcase a new suite of innovative features,” the automaker said in a statement.

The design sketch Honda released of its next-generation minivan shows a dramatically styled van with a raked windshield and fender wells filled with large wheels. There are also design cues that will be familiar to current Odyssey owners, like raked-forward rear roof pillars.

How much of the sketch’s sporty styling carries over to the production van remains to be seen, but Honda hasn’t been shy about taking chances with the Odyssey’s styling in the past; the current version’s styling remains polarizing.

The debut of the 2018 Odyssey follows closely the on-sale date of the 2017 Odyssey, which hits dealerships today and, apart from a new acoustic windshield for SE and EX-L trim levels, is unchanged from the 2016 model.
