Today at the L.A. Auto Show, Toyota announced plans to sell the Scion iM concept in 2015. That shouldn’t be a surprise, because it is a Scion version of Toyota’s Auris hatchback that is already sold globally.
Also called the Corolla Hatchback in some markets, the iM is based on Toyota’s popular compact sedan. That also makes the iM the most traditional car we’ve seen wear the Scion badge since the brand was introduced more than a decade ago with the xA and the boxy-but-good xB.
The iM concept is slightly modified from the original Auris with sport-focused body-cladding, larger wheels and other add-ons. Don’t expect those to be on a basic iM, however, when the production car is rolled out at the New York Auto Show in April. Toyota says that car will debut alongside a second all-new Scion production model as well, in efforts to breathe life into the youth-oriented brand.
