Subaru’s sporty WRX and performance-amped WRX STI models got redesigned for 2015, and more changes are on tap for 2016. Like many models in Subaru’s lineup, the 2016 WRX is finally getting the optional EyeSight suite of safety systems, and both models now feature Subaru’s updated multimedia system.

EyeSight combines adaptive cruise control, precollision braking and lane departure warning systems. Newly added to EyeSight this year is a lane keep assist function, which automatically helps the vehicle stay within its lane on the highway. EyeSight-equipped models also come with steering responsive fog lights; the system activates the left or right fog light when turning to provide extra illumination. Other new safety options include blind spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert systems.

Also new for 2016 on the WRX and WRX STI is an upgraded multimedia system and the brand’s Starlink emergency communication service. A 6.2-inch screen is standard; a 7-inch screen with navigation is optional. The system includes satellite radio, Bluetooth streaming audio, and Pandora and Aha app integration. A rearview camera is standard on all trims.

The 2016 WRX starts at $27,390, up slightly from model-year 2015’s $27,090 base price. The STI version starts at $35,490, a touch higher than model-year 2015’s $35,290 base price (all prices include a $795 destination fee). Both models go on sale this summer.
