We’ve tacked 3,000 more miles onto Cars.com’s long-term 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic test car since our previous update, and this time with a measurable jump in fuel economy. The C300’s lifetime fuel economy increases almost half an mpg thanks to a string of 30-mpg fill-ups after a road trip from Chicago to southeast Minnesota.
The all-wheel-drive turbocharged four-cylinder C300 saw its best fill-up to date with 31.32 mpg, according to our calculations. The C300 hit the number loaded with an editor’s family of four; it recorded an equally impressive 30.5 mpg tank on the return trip. Not too shabby considering the C300’s highway rating of 31 mpg. The car’s lifetime average is now up to 26.02 mpg, which is just 1 mpg shy of the all-wheel-drive C300 4Matic’s combined EPA rating.
