I recently worked with a salesman at Courtesy Dodge. My initial interaction was positive—I explained that I have a son on life support at home, so coming into the dealership is difficult. I wanted to handle as much as possible remotely to minimize my time there. Despite this, I waited days for a response. When he finally got back to me, he again promised the information I had requested—but I never heard from him again. Still interested in a vehicle, I decided to go in person. I texted the salesman the day before to let him know I’d be coming in and asked if he’d be available—no response. My husband, who’s been in the auto industry for over 15 years, advised me to go anyway. When I arrived, several salesmen were standing outside on their phones, and none greeted me. Inside, another salesman informed me the one I’d spoken to wasn’t available but that he could assist. I explained I was there to test drive and purchase or lease either a Hellcat Durango or an SRT 392. He laughed in my face—as if a woman wanting that type of vehicle was a joke. He pointed to one on the showroom floor and said, “There’s one there.” I looked at it and said I’d like to test drive one. His response: “How about a Jeep?” I made it clear I was only interested in the two vehicles mentioned and was willing to have my credit pulled to show I was serious. He said he’d get the keys, then stood around laughing and chatting with the box managers for over 20 minutes. I walked out and went to Jerry Ulm, where I leased my new Durango.
