I purchased my Toyota Camry from United auto sales in East Windsor. Jim and Rodney were so good in helping me select this car. I have driven it for a few months and it is a very nice car. They helped me in financing it as well, something other dealers put less clarity and emphasis. The price for their car is very competitive and they sell good cars. Thank you Jim and Rodney. This is the third car we bought from them and I always give them the first chance when looking for another car. Thank you!!

0 stars for me. I purchased a 2014 VW Tiguan from United Auto, and the experience quickly turned into a nightmare. During the test drive, my fiance noticed a "wet mop" smell on the seatbelt and asked Rodney (the salesman) if the vehicle could possibly be checked for water damage, since moisture leads to mold growth. His response was "I'm not sure what you want me to do, we don't check for water damage". Since the car had supposedly been on the lot for only a few days, I figured it hadn't been cleaned since the last owner, and assumed the smell might disappear after detailing. Unfortunately, the "detailing" they did was a joke. The interior was still extremely dirty and oily all around. Within the first two days of having the car, multiple dashboard warning lights also started appearing on and off. Soon after, my windshield actually completely froze from inside of the car when the temperature outside dropped - a clear sign of excessive moisture being inside of the car. When I brought the car back to United Auto, I explained the issues and even showed pictures of my windshield. Rodney stated his mechanic would try to figure out what the problems were, but that he wasn't a "VW technician", so they would possibly have to send the car out to a specialist. The specialist informed Rodney's mechanic that an ABS sensor needed to be replaced, (which I had to pay half for under their 30 day 50/50 warranty - seems like they offer this type of warranty because they know issues start to arise with their vehicles once purchased by a customer). The mechanic also said the carpets were "damp" which was the cause of my windshield freezing, and could be removed to dry for another $200. Which I declined because I figured the rugs would dry eventually if they were only damp, and it wasn't something I caused for me to have to pay for it. I brought this concern up to Rodney as well, since the issue could have been caused by the rugs not being dried properly after detailing, which his mechanic had also suggested, but Rodney brushed off the issue stating no other customer had complained before and even suggested the moisture might have been from me leaving the car windows open for water to get inside. He also even stated that the rugs would obviously be damp from his employees having to move the cars around on the lot after it had snowed. Blame went from the rugs not being dried properly after detailing, to me leaving the windows open, to now it being because of his employees having wet shoes. When I got the car home and lifted the rubber mats, along with a plastic covering they had placed down after detailing, I discovered the carpets weren't just damp - they were completely SOAKED. Water would surface when pressure was applied. So whoever placed the plastic coverings underneath the rubber mats obviously knew about the rugs being wet. When I called the dealership the next day (still within the 30 day warranty), Rodney refused to help and said I would have to take the car to the shop myself and pay the full cost, stating this was a "cosmetic issue and not a health concern". Even though he had already agreed to pay half before I had declined the service. I decided to cut ties with these people and eventually took the vehicle to a professional detailing shop in Southington, where the owner discovered black mold forming underneath the carpets - something United Auto never disclosed, despite the paperwork from the specialist they took it to suggested giving the car a mold treatment. This is now a serious health concern, especially since I am 36 weeks pregnant and have a young child. I wonder how Rodney would feel if one of his daughters were pregnant and being treated the same way by a dealer who was withholding information that could cause serious health issues. Rodney and his mechanic were not transparent about the condition of the vehicle and gave me the run around when problems appeared. I strongly recommend being extremely cautious when buying here.

Dealer response

Dear Jenisse, Your review is unfair. We are and were transparent with you and your wet carpet. We inspected it for water leaks and even had another shop do the same. None were found. We offer to do the same as your detail shop did, but you declined. We are glad it is resolved. For 49 years we have given a warranty on our cars when all other dealers sell them AS-IS. We pride ourselves on great customer service and feel you review is unfair. As always, we are at your service if you like. Sincerely, Jim Del Piano Owner

Incredibly knowledgeable and professional. I was shopping around for an AWD sedan in the area and United Auto had what I was looking for. Rodney and Miguel were tremendously helpful in showing me a Subaru Legacy. Highly recommend United Auto!

Jim was helpful in buying my 3rd car from United Auto. They are clear and quick to the point. He made the car buying easy! He had my registration ready for the glove compartment which was an amazing touch.
