The staff personnel were friendly and informative.

The staff personnel were friendly and informative. They worked with me to provide what I was looking for in a new vehicle. This was particularly true of Diana and Deborah. This included explaining the operation of the vehicle.

Great experience!

Great experience! Could not have had a better experience with James Paul at Coggin Honda St. Augustine. He was excellent and made the process so easy. My wife and I both purchased a car with James and would highly recommend working with him if you are in the market for a new car.

A Very demeaning and insulting experience.

A Very demeaning and insulting experience. THE Attorney general Sales boss yells at me to "GET OUT" OF the dealership and threats with "JAIL time" ??? read along... (why AG? details below) Is it Racial Profiling? Illiteracy? or sales men wannabe DHS/border Patrol/Attorney generals but failed school? I am a south Asian techie on a work visa (work for top CRA). DESI / Immi community please take a minute to reflect. I called up to make an appointment to look at a minivan. Sales expert Mr.John meets me , we step into the dealership . He asks for my license , and I provide it as a common practice at all dealers. Now he looks at my license and points out very suspiciously that it is a temporary license and it has only 1 year left. I ask him why he's concerned and speculating on the dates of my license and when it expires or temporary. Then he gets offended and says "we started off on a wrong foot, let me get someone else to help you". He then takes my license and runs into sales room and gives my DL to two wannabe ATTORNEY GENERALS sales heads(Mr.BIG AG and Mr.SMALL AG), and they exchange it among themself speculating as if they are verifying as if it's a collectible or contraband. At this point they did not make a copy/scan my DL or take me on a test drive(the genius sales guy would accompany me anyways). I did not like the way they were suspicious about my DL. We haven't reached a point where they are running my finances to doubt my credentials. Now I asked the both AG's to return my DL and told them, It's not fair for them to speculate if my license is temporary or permanent and it's not their business and they should not discriminate or profile people. Mr.SMALL AG takes me to another room and tries to tell me they have to speculate and verify the validity of my DL . Goes on to say , their genius sales guy came back to work after many years and not in touch . He goes on to say that financial organizations require this info to qualify for loan and all... I stop him and tell him my license is REAL-ID compliant and it's not the bank's/ lender's / dealership's business to profile me based on my license validity dates, it is my credit worthiness and ability to pay based on which institutions lend . I told him that when you pull a credit report, it does not report on your nationality or citizenship status because they are governed by FCRA/CCPA and should not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status and age. Mr.SMALL AG says they are all aware of it and it's their practice to speculate and this is all normal, at this point I tell him this is xx and this is profiling and discrimination. There will be legal consequences for this kind of practice and I walk out. I wanted to show them that they made a bad judgment, I went back to show my earnings just so that they SHOULD NOT JUDGE people and they should not treat customers with suspicion and discriminate based on race, color or status. It's a dealership and they are salesmen , sell cars and nothing else. Interestingly this time the Mr.BIG AG sales manager loudly YELLS at me saying , "they are required to check the validity , authenticity of Driver's license" and the ATTORNEY GENERAL has provided them the law and provision to do that. At this point I tell him it is B.S and asked him what statutory law? NOW, he yells at me - we don't have to tell you all that, GET OUT OF HERE (twice loudly), Now he threatens me “GET OUT” or else “END UP IN JAIL”. I quietly walked out, I know my limits as I am on their business premises. Lucky for me my family and kids were waiting out in the car, they did not have to endure this insult. By all means I tried to call their bluffs where possible. I leave it to the reader, it could happen to anyone. Imagine what would happen to the privacy of the personal info in the hands of people like this. Where it could be going and who might be holding it. This is all to show a used car.

Dealer response

This is Jon Bittrolff, the General Manager. I am sorry to read about your visit and I am very disappointed in the outcome. We value all our guests and want to deliver an enjoyable experience. I would like to express our team meant no harm in gathering and attempting to explain the process we follow transacting business while managing risk and liability. Unfortunately, many consumers are victim to identity theft which results in fraudulent transactions so we have checks and balances with software ID verifications as well as responsibilities to communicate information to our lenders. Obviously, you feel we fell short of this explanation, I do apologize. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss the specifics of your visit. Please feel free to contact me directly at +1 (904-494-0425).

Consumer response

Of course the experience is out of this world. You suspect all the people who walk into your dealership to spend their hard earned money and purchase a car ? or is it only who look a certain way? EXPLAIN what made your sales guys to suspect ?? Please explain what statutory law did the Attorney General provide your sales department geniuses so that you can speculate identity of a person? please list the Statutes or accept that its all nonsense by your team. My license was valid for another year , you are not law enforcement to speculate the dates, neither you got deputized. Your sales guys did not even have commonsense that a license can be renewed. I am REAL-ID/Goldstar license recipient means federally verified and yet again your sales didn't have that basic knowledge to identify that . Your team did not put me in the system or scan my license to do ID verification by your CRM software, you did not even show me the vehicle or take me on test drive. Neither your sales guys are authorized or qualified to authenticate a driving license(what certifications do they have??). You don't even have a credit application or a purchase offer from me to even think about risk and liability in terms of lending or speculating about me. So did your dealership publish on you website what kind of documents you need to See a vehicle (forget buying)?? Are you expecting to see immigration documents to satisfy your checks and balances ?? Are your lenders asking for these documentation?? who are those lenders ?? Of course I feel that you fell short in terms of selling that car and in lacking dignity in treating people and conducting your business.
