I have a friend who has bad credit so I decided to

I have a friend who has bad credit so I decided to co-sign for her so she could get a good use car. We ended up getting a 2009 Toyota RAV4 which was in very good condition. This review is not for the vehicle but for the dealership - Prestige Auto in Ocala Florida - who sold it to us. The price for the RAV4 was a little higher than we wanted to pay but the salesman told us it included a two year warranty. As it turned out the two year warranty was an additional 2,224.00 dollars. I was supposed to be the co-signer and my friend the buyer. The dealership put me down as the buyer and my friend as the co-signer. They put my friend's address as my address when she has her own home. This was all done so the application would go through but without my consent to do so. The salesman had us sign the paperwork - several pages, but gave them and took them away from us so fast - after we signed them - that we did not have time to read them. That was our fault for not reading them. The print is so small anyway. We did not get any paperwork the day we bought the RAV4, but we were told they would be emailed to both of us. That seamed weird to me but we agreed to it. That night I got an email from the dealership with a link to click and it did not work. So the next day I called the dealership to complain about not getting the paperwork and was told Mike the salesman would call me back. Two hours later and no call. So I called back and told them I was coming to the dealership to pick up the paperwork. In the meantime I read a review on a website where the woman reviewer said that the warranty scam happened to her, so I made sure I went through the paperwork at the dealership while I was there and sure enough I was charged the extra 2,224.00 for the warranty. When I complained to the manager he got rude and said he had enough of me. When I mentioned that my friend the buyer was listed as the co-signer and had my address, he said he would check on it in his office. When I went to go into his office he told me to stay out. Later he told me to come in. I guess my only options are live with it or to sue for damages - 2,224.00 plus lawyer expenses. i have done reviews on several websites about this dealership so people will be wiser if they buy a car from them and plan to do some more. I also contacted the FTC. My reviews end with: So I give Prestige Motors two stars out of five only because the RAV4 seems to be in great shape. Otherwise I would probably give the dealership a big ZERO.

Dealer response

Richard. Glad to hear you found a solid vehicle at Prestige and all readers should also see that as well, no lemon sold. Richard, our online sale postings as well as the widow sticker on each car matches: "a limited 30 day powertrain warranty" is included. Check our website and stop by the lot to verify for yourself. Your lenders finance contract and bill of sale (which you have seen, signed and have in hand) breaks down all the purchase numbers, (including sale price, sales tax, optional purchased service contract and the finance charges). The great news for your remedy is in your alway present ability to cancel the optional products. So while you signed a form that says "accept or decline" for an extended service contract and its costs, you can also opt out. You purchased a very nice 14 year old SUV and were given 5 star service in the process. Richard, you have been shown how to cancel this warranty, and despite the easy short solution, you prefer insulting us and calling the FTC. Just cancel the warranty if you desire and go enjoy your nice Rav4. You invested a lot of time on the internet to find this very nice vehicle and deal, just enjoy. May I offer you a complimentary 90 day service and cleaning for your missunderstanding time and our resolution? "Appreciate You" Chris M. Spears Prestige Auto Sales Ambassador (352) 694-1234

Consumer response

Mr. Spears, what your salesman Mike did is fraud. You put my name as buyer without my permission to do so and had both of us signing paperwork left and right without giving us a chance to read them so we wouldn't realize what you were doing. It messed up my insurance and caused a lot of unnecessary headaches for me, my friend who I was supposed to co-sign for and both of our insurance companies. I am now talking to the DMV, my Insurance company to see what legal issues I now have because of your crooked dealership and how to straighten it all out. As well as the Florida State Attorneys office. If just one person who reads this review and/or others I put on the internet changes their mind about buying a car at your so-called dealership I will be happy I saved someone else some stress. I have many options I am looking into and lots and lots and lots of free time. All my options will be legal ones. As far as the warranty goes it has already been cancelled and the RAV4 has now been paid for. I am waiting for the title from the loan company so I can take my name off the title which will cost me 85 dollars to do so at the DMV which I will add to the price of your warranty scam. And I haven't even mentioned the "price cost amount" for the stress you have caused me and my friend. The main thing with the warranty is it should have been included in the price we agreed to with crooked salesman Mike. So your dealership owes me 2,224.00 dollars as the price for the RAV4 should have that much lower plus the 85 dollar DMV title charge. Bank fees to pay off the loan and other costs incurred so far. Then there is the matter of your salesman putting my name as buyer instead of co-signer is another legal issue you are going to have to deal with soon. You pride yourselves on being a Christian dealership on YouTube but you are anything but. I put reviews about your dishonest dealership all over the internet and YouTube to warn others and I have not finished yet. I'm just glad we have the internet and websites like Dealerrater.com where many people visit before buying cars so crooks like you can be put in your place and possibly out of business.

Dealer response

Just untrue Richard. We put everything we do in black and white and placed you where under no pressure to do anything and you know it. It would be safe to say you have probably never purchased a vehicle from a dealership and ever felt less pressure than you did at Prestige. As a shopper myself I won't be made to buy anything while feeling pressure and don't do business that way as well. Richard, just yesterday I signed a contract with a lady school teacher and told her to take all the time she needed to read over and I'd answer any questions she comes up with and about 30 minutes later, when she finished reading, she signed. You seemed to have gotten cold feet for some unspoken reason, but you were not hoodwinked or forced to purchase. While I make no claims to perfection or that your 14 year old SUV will last forever, you are not unique to attack my faith and seem to exhibit extra energy in doing so. I'm not sure why you may have an issue with God and I don't buy you being a social justice warrior in doing so. If you are past the point of screaming and cursing, I'd be open to talking. Please let me know - Chris (352) 694-1234

Consumer response

Well I called you this morning at around 11:45 AM at your dealership to talk to you and your receptionist said you will call me back. I'm 65 plus years old so I have bought many cars in my lifetime. The last car I bought was from a used car dealer in Leesburg Florida 4 years ago, a 1996 Geo Tracker with only 51,000 miles on it, I paid more than I wanted to but they do not make them anymore. I had no problems whatsoever with that dealership. They sat me down, explained each document that I signed, I bought the vehicle with cash and I am still happy with the deal. The Geo Tracker is the same one I showed up in at your dealership when me and my friend was looking at your RAV4 SUV on 12/12/23. My ex-girlfriend bought a car from your dealership about 10 years ago and as far as I remember had no issues. Which is why I stopped at your dealership to look at the RAV4. Maybe Prestige Auto Sales changed hands since then or maybe your salesman needs to be talked to. I not going to repeat everything that I mentioned in the last two reviews. I have my point of view of what happened and you have yours even though you were not in the room with salesman Mike and me and my friend. Both me and my friend said the same thing as far as what happened in your sales office. It looks like we need a 3rd party to get involved.

Consumer response

As of 01/06/24 Prestige Auto Sales has done nothing to make right for overcharging me for the RAV4. The only thing I get from Chris Spears from Prestige Auto Sales in Ocala is texts about me letting the Devil take control of my mind and someone being too busy to help at a food bank, some really weird stuff. When looking at both of our responses on this review site make sure your take note of the dates of each response as for some reason they seem to be out of order. So my only options left seem to be to protest the dealership at the dealership which I plan to do on January 9th 2024 and talk a lawyer which I have scheduled for Monday.

Heather at prestige auto sales was amazing to work with.

Heather at prestige auto sales was amazing to work with. I came in looking at a truck and didn't like the fact it was 4x2 and stopped the buying process mid way through. Heather wasn't fazed at all and proceeded to show me pictures of a truck that just came in and was in the shop getting service done. I loved it, prestige made the numbers work for my bank with no hassle. she pushed to get it done. I was able to take the truck in a few hours. I highly recommend Heather. I will definitely buy my next vehicle at prestige auto sales!

I was in a bad spot and needed to get a new (to me) car. I really felt they went out of their way to work with me rather than sell to me. Everyone I worked with was very personable and understanding in an already difficult situation. It was such a refreshing change of pace to feel like my interests mattered more than their bottom line. No gimmicks, no surprise fees, just a fair deal. Thank you!!!

Have bought a ridiculous number of always new cars over the years and decided as a last fling I wanted a Mustang. New dealer was a real turn off so decided I'd look for a late model, still in warranty used one. Found several in radius and went on the hunt. These people were closest, but asking too much $$. Car looked and drove well so through salesman Earl Cato I made an out-the-door offer. Manager Dan studied my comparisons and did some computer work, then accepted the deal. It was that simple. No arm wrestling, gun or fist fights, loud yelling or haggling over nickels and dimes. (save that for home when she finds out I've got it hidden in the detached garage.) Anyway, business-like dealing with salesmen Earl and Shaun and Mgr. Dan was as it should be and I recommend them from my experience.
