About a month ago, the factory front brakes on my 2019 Lexus RC300 with less that 50k began to squeal extremely loudly. I had them replaced with non-Lexus parts—my decision—although I was told both the pads and rotors were still in good condition. Despite the replacement, the squealing persisted. I then took the car to Lexus for a $110 brake inspection. Their diagnosis was that the noise was due to the use of non-Lexus brake components and recommended replacing the entire front braking system for $1,500. However, I pointed out that the squealing had actually started while the factory brakes were still on the vehicle. At that point, they had no clear explanation. When I asked for a detailed diagnosis of what was causing the noise, it became evident that they hadn’t even inspected the vehicle thoroughly—raising the question of what the inspection fee actually covered. Still, I told them I’d be willing to pay the $1,500 if they could guarantee it would resolve the issue. The service representative admitted he couldn’t make that guarantee, adding, “Some of them just squeal sometimes.” Ended up selling the car to another dealer because Lexus wouldn’t purchase it. Wonder why?
