2016 XC90 Engine Blew 2 days after I bought it.

My wife is 9 months pregnant with our second child and after months of research and test drives, last week I pulled the trigger to buy her a pre-owned, 2016 XC90 T6 (VIN: YV4A22PK6G1069911) with 27k miles from Carlsbad Volvo. Sam was helpful, and even wrote me a check as part of the deal to cover the negative equity on my wife's car we were selling later that day. Long story short...the ENGINE BLEW 2 days later on the XC90 as my wife and child were driving to dinner. The auto breaks engaged, decelerating the car from 60mph to 25mph without warning and effectively stopping in the middle of a busy 3 lane road/intersection. The cars behind us sped by, swerving to avoid a collision. It was one of the scariest moments I have ever had behind the wheel. We felt helpless in what was supposed to be one of the safest cars on the road. The next day, Carlsbad towed the car from Mission Viejo and put us in a loaner while they tried to determine what happened. They confirmed a few days later that the engine would need to be rebuilt/replaced...and (begrudgingly) agreed to cancel the purchase agreement. NOT ONCE DID THEY EVER APOLOGIZE. Their loaner suddenly became our only reliable form of transportation. We immediately started weighing our options as we needed a car in the event my wife went into labor. We tried to work with Carlsbad on a solution, but after they were unable to get us into a new car within our budget, Steve, (the GM of Carlsbad and Escondido) began insisting that we return their loaner even though he knew we had sold our car to buy his (which blew up 48 hours later) and before we had time to really consider other options. We had only been in the loaner for 4 or 5 days when Steve effectively forced us out of the car, which would be leaving me and my pregnant wife completely stranded. On top of all that, Steve told me that the check they wrote me (which was done as part of the deal so I could pay off the negative equity on my wife's car which we had to sell in order to buy the XC90) needed to be returned as well! He went so far as to threaten me that if I didn't return the car and check the next day, I should get an attorney. With 24 hours to spare before we were "ordered" to return the loaner, we walked into Volvo Mission Viejo at 8pm hoping for a miracle. Even before telling them our situation, Kyle Palmer and the whole team at Mission Viejo were taking care of us. BUT when they found out what Carlsbad Volvo was doing to my family...Boy, did they take it to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL. We arrived at their dealership feeling defeated and scared. We told them what was happening and they stepped up to make things right. Kyle and Chris (Sales Manager) got us into a brand-spanking-new, 2018 XC90 for a payment and terms that Steve at Carlsbad Volvo said was IMPOSSIBLE "even after everything we had been through." Not only did they act quick and find us a car similar to what we originally purchased, Kyle personally met me in Carlsbad the next morning when I returned the loaner to drive me back to Mission Viejo where our new car was waiting. I was floored. Customer service still does exist and it lives at Volvo Mission Viejo. If you’re going to buy a car at Carlsbad Volvo.....actually, just don’t.

GO SEE ALEX AT VOLVO!

ALEX. Alex was the best thing about my experience! Alex was by far the best sales person I've ever bought a car from! I've bought and leased cars from Lexus, Audi, Toyota, and many more and before I leased the XC90, I shopped around at BMW & Mercedes, and at both of those dealerships, the sales person totally turned me off. They were pushy and invasive once I gave them my cell phone #.. When I came to Volvo, Alex Cloney was professional and fun and thoughtful and knew EVERYTHING about the car that I was interested in. She's a 10!

Great warranty repair

I was greeted (on a Sunday) by a person who knew me and knew I was coming in with a problem. The next day I showed up for a loaner, and again was greeted by a serviceman (Frank) who knew I was coming, and had a great loaner ready to go. Service was completed in tw days, then the problem and solution were completely explained to me.
