These are friendly people. I received great customer service, they went beyond selling cars. They try to help me in so many ways. I am recommending that you stop by if you want a good deal and great customer service. Very nice people.

Quick, easy, pleasant, comfortable, and very competent. Car was exactly as advertised. Next time I need a car they will be the FIRST place I call.

We purchased an SUV from this business, and traded in our vehicle at the same time. Unfortunately we agreed to pay considerably over Kelley Blue Book value because Barbara and Chris advised that the SUV was “in excellent condition and needed nothing.” They also advised that they had put over $900 into the suspension. Less than 24 hours after purchasing the vehicle, the check engine light came on. We brought it to our mechanic, who we have used for all of our cars for the last several years without issue. He initially stated that he thought it was the idle air control valve. After inspecting the vehicle further, our mechanic determined it actually needs $3400 in repairs. Everything ranging from basic maintenance ie. Oil change and filter, to the IAC valve, radiator, oil pan gasket, steering gear, and ball joints. According to our mechanic, they even went so far as putting Stop Leak in the radiator to stop it leaking long enough to sell the vehicle. I called the Shumakers and asked how they intended to make this right. Their excuses ranged from accusing our mechanic of inflating prices, to stating that the vehicle we traded in needed over $1000 of work (our car was making a slight noise when we traded it in, but not beyond that). I asked several times how they intended to make this right, and were told there was nothing they would do to fix this. I even asked if they viewed our mechanic as the problem, that if I got a second opinion from another mechanic, if they would do something then. Again, Chris refused to do anything. He was rude throughout the conversation and had an escalated voice, despite me never raising my tone. I write this review to hopefully save someone else from making the same mistakes we did with the Shumakers. We absolutely should have gotten a presale inspection, which may have discovered some of these major issues before we purchased the vehicle. Please, please ensure you do this before purchasing a vehicle from this business. I would never recommend this business. The Shumakers were not only deceptive and dishonest about the condition of the vehicle, but they do not stand behind their own work. They do have some very positive reviews on various sites, but unfortunately I can only speak for my own experience and the Shumakers did not uphold any form of integrity during this transaction.

Schumacher a took advantage of my widow mother looking for a vehicle. She purchased a 2008 Jeep from them, came back a few days later to say that it smelt awful like oil burning. They stated they had no clue and that it wasn’t like that before she took it. We insisted it get checked out so my mother as trusting as she was went to their own mechanic who said it was just overfilled with oil and not to worry. She did not worry when she smelt it because they assured her nothing was wrong. I finally had her take it in and there are cracked valves and valve covers.. about $800 worth of damage. I called to ask the name of the mechanic they sent us to and they got very defensive and argument I’ve. Stated they never sent us to a mechanic and we have no proof. Also lied in the listing that the seats were leather covered to boost the value when it was just pleather seat covers.. very unprofessional and dishonest.

Do yourself a favor and come here first! Locally owned and operated by Chris and Barbara Shumaker, they treat you like family and won't sell you a car they wouldn't drive for themselves. They are in Clayton, but it is an easy drive from Raleigh and will likely be the best car purchasing experience you have had, ever!

My experience with Shumaker motors was nothing but positive. There was no pressure, they provided answers to any questions that I had, and they were considerate and respectful of my time. Chris and Barbara were a pleasure to deal with and I would recommend them to anyone. A+

Anthony and his family are the easiest people to deal with. After I purchased a 2006 Highlander for my Son. I was in the market for full size truck. I told Anthony exactly what I was looking for and within two weeks he had it on his lot ready to go. They even helped me with financing and I received a very low interest rate with BB&T. Couldn't be happier with my purchases.
