"Experience Clear and Simple Car Buying and Selling"
Read reviews that mention:
Offered less than half retail value. Car in great shape, no defects, none listed by Carla, yet offer was 7000 for a car that is listed in a variety of... areas of the country for on average $16,999. Thieves, and they are killing the used car market. Laughable offer they made with straight faces.
Brought a 2015 VW Touareg TDI in today to have it appraised. My vehicle only has 34k and is in mint condition. I was shocked at how low Carmax came in... on the appraisal. How they stay in business is remarkable. Beware! Sell your vehicle yourself.
This location of Carmax will sell you a car with problems and then refuse to fix them. Why?! Why can't they fix the problems before selling the car--it's... not that hard. We're not stupid, we're just not car people therefore we took it to a mechanic. Trust a good mechanic--not Carmax. They will do anything to take as much money as possible.
Bought a used Toyota Camry with about 100,000 miles for around $10,600 plus fees and taxes. We tried to be very thorough in looking up all the car information... and researching before hand. After buying the car we took it directly to a mechanic to do an examination of the car and found out that the front breaks were at 8%. CarMax refused to fix the breaks saying the brakes were within their standards, but not disputing the 8% figure. CarMax passes any car brakes that would pass state inspection, meaning that if the car has any breaking ability at all they clear it. New breaks run about $375 at our mechanic and he said the car would need them within a few months, maybe less. CarMax refused to either do the service or refund us anything even though we called back on the day of the purchase and brought the car into the center to be looked at three days later. The car also had a broken tire sensor. Overall the service was terrible. Each step of the process took hours. We were there 3 different days for a total of almost 10 hours. We worked with Diabel (our salesman), T'ume (the manager), and Nick (the mechanic). We also worked with a half dozen other employees who probably aren't responsible for the scam, but that's how many people it takes CarMax to sell you a car and refuse to fix it. They all gave us the same run around with delaying tactics and bs about how the car brakes "met their standards." Most disturbingly of all they seemed familiar with this issue. I think CarMax regularly sells cars with bad brakes due to extremely low brake standards and then refuses people refunds or maintenance. DO NOT BUY A CAR WITHOUT CHECKING THE BRAKE PADS! Crawl under the car if you have to, but don't trust them. If you do try to return the car, within the 5-day return period, they will give you the run around about every little thing (a full tank of gas, any miles driven, the keys, etc. ). It will take hours and they will make it as difficult as possible to try and prevent you from returning the car. I recommend finding a different dealer!
The first time I bought a car (not from CarMax) it was a terrible experience and I was stuck with a hunk of junk that was worth far less than what I owed.... CarMax made me an amazing offer for it, and helped me pick a the SUV of my dreams that was within my means! Affordable, beautiful quality, it looks and smells BRAND NEW - no one would ever suspect it was used!! The buying process was so simple and quick. My sales guy, Scottie, was an absolute pleasure to work with. He didn’t put on any pressure, made everything extremely easy to understand, and let me take my time! I am just so impressed and happy with my experience. When it is time for another upgrade, I will certainly be going back to check out what’s on their lot FIRST before anywhere else! If you’re looking to upgrade your car and/or sell your car definitely GO TO CARMAX!!!!!! -Proud Owner of a Nissan Rogue
Left after viewing several cars. Decided to shop elsewhere. Could not seriously consider any of the cars due to unclean interiors. Stains and dirt on light... leather interiors. CarMax really needs to detail their cars. Won’t buy a car from them.
Received one phone call for a profile of the car I wanted to buy. Never heard back. Zero follow up
Always went to CarMax. Not again. Bottom line. All was set. Had to drive forever to get down payment at bank and just made it to bank in time. Go back... and all changed. So furious. They said good news and bad. Umm no good news at all they made a mistake with warranty on old car which drastically changed terms. No phone call or sorry. Just nothing. Wasted time and energy. HUGE discouragement for anyone.
Taylor Lynch made my wife me feel comfortable when searching for a good used Honda. He did not attack us like wolves do in the brand name dealerships .... He was Honest, professional, knowledgeable about his profession. I would definitely recommend Taylor Lynch and the Carmax on Glenwood Ave. to all of my friends and family. I would recommend Carmax to anyone searching for a car. No hassles, no pressure, just good honest to goodness salemanship.
I have to say, this was the most pleasant buying experience I've ever had. Sales people were extreemly knowledgable, cheerful, and not pushy. Maybe even... more impressive were the mechanics- probably the most experienced mechanics I've ever delt with- and in 40 years of driving and working on cars, that's saying something. Where else can you go and try out a dozen cars from as many different companies, all in one place.
I think that you just listed most of what makes CarMax a great place to buy quality, used cars. We try to do business differently because we know that... customers don't want to play those traditional dealer games. Thanks for the great comment Tomw. and I hope that you'll come back to us when it's time for another! ~ Austin
