Write a reviewBought the car in April 2023.
Bought the car in April 2023. Went for its first oil change and my mechanic said it was low and I need to keep an eye on it. Car had a leak on both sides of the engine, which was repaired (by Sheehy because CarMax didn't have the tools to fix it). Even after the repairs, the car is still consuming oil at an alarming rate (1 quart per 700-1000 miles). The warranty that CarMax pushed onto me through Fidelity Warranty services is refusing to cover the cost and CarMax is also refusing to pay. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's office. I also have a meeting with a lawyer and have reached out to some local newspapers as well.

Poor experience!!
My husband and I spent at least 2 or so hours test driving 2 vehicles. I made a decision that I wanted to move forward with one of them and was told by our sales person that it was no longer available because the manager was buying it. It was parked with all the used cars and stickers. The manager neglected to come over and explain the situation. I called him and he said he had placed the vehicle on hold but our sales person didn’t notice. He would be buying it on Tuesday. I took my business to Mercedes of Fredericksburg and was treated with nothing but respect.

Never again...lazy disinterested salespeople
We bought a new car elsewhere...won't even consider CarMax in the future. My husband and I arrived planning to buy a car...new or nearly new.... there was no greeting from any of the 7 people until he asked directions to restroom and got directions...nothing more. I arrived a minute later....nobody spoke. I walked full distance of their building...7 workers in and near cubicles ....some looked up, some turned away quickly....NOT A SINGLE PERSON GREETED ME! I was there the whole time my husband was in the restroom....no one spoke to me. When my husband returned, I said for everyone to hear "let's go...nobody here wants to sell a car to us today!" We were at the front door before anyone approached us....the person who gave directions to the restroom who protested that he DID speak..( well, only when asked!) CarMax...listen up... YOU SNOOZE....YOU LOSE!!!!!

Steer clear
I encourage you to not give your business to this location. They sell vehicles that they do not stand behind. When a car breaks down 4 times in 18months and the service shop keeps the car on average 3-4weeks for each repair, leaves you without a car for 13 weeks (3 months) out of the 18mts you actually owned the car. The last repair lasted 5days before the car left me sitting alongside the road again. Obviously they do not know how to repair a car properly even when they keep it for 4 weeks. They are not willing to work with you to make it right. STEER CLEAR!

If you want to think about it, they don't want you
So went through the automated process of prequalifying and was approved. However, after contact with the sales rep, it was determined they wanted me to trade in my vehicle. I told him I didn't want to trade it in. Then he says well give me a call back if you change your mind. My husband said I'll go ahead and get the car and I immediately emailed him back- no response. I called him twice after, again, no response. It's been well over 24 hrs and no response. I guess if you don't tell them what they want to hear, they don't want to bother with you anymore. Oh well, their loss.

carmax review
In my experience carmax is not where i will ever go to get another car ever in my life! The costomer service was great but the car my husband and i bought Ended up being in the carmax repair shop a day after their money back gaurantee.. So thereforw we ended up having to keep the car.. we got it fixed. Ended up bringing the car back to the shop for the same reason We got it fixed yet again and we were told that there would be no further problems But several repairs later we are now sitting in a parking lot Waiting on a tow truck to tow our car to "Carmax"" .

We completely understand your frustration with this issue. Have you tried calling our customer service department to see if they can look into this further for you? They are open M-F 830-8 EST and can be reached at 800-519-1511.
Good facility
Pros: Good clean facility, many choices, flexible hours, professional staff. Cons: Vehicles considerably overpriced--many times more than the dealer, trade in vehicles considerably underpriced. For instance, the Mercedes Benz S500 that I wanted was priced $2200 more than the local dealer and they offered me $17000 for my vehicle which I sold two days later for $25000. For those reasons, this is a good place to research different types of vehicles but buy only after checking at a local dealer.

Chris, we?re sorry to hear that we didn?t meet your expectations. There is a lot that goes into the pricing and appraisals of our cars. Every CarMax car goes through a 125-point inspection and is fully reconditioned before it goes on our lots. Each car also comes with a 5-day money back guarantee and a 30-day warranty. Our appraisal offer is based on a number of criteria, including the condition of your car, the vehicle?s age, mileage and market supply and demand. Thanks for your feedback.
No Haggle Pricing: But Higher Prices Than Most
Having previously purchased (2) used vehicles from CarMax in the past, as well as having warranty work done, I believe I can offer a fair assessment of Carmax. Pros: Large inventory, no haggle pricing, financing for all credit worthy levels, vehicles purchased (non ValueMax) were in good condition, clean facilities Cons: Over past several years, prices are MUCH higher than comparable vehicles at reputable dealerships. In almost all cases, if you do your research, you can find lower pricing for vehicles in the same year, same condition, and yet have much lower mileage. CarMax uses "market based pricing" which is an attempt to justify overcharging customers. Warranty work required not always completed in a timely fashion or done right the first time. My previous experiences resulted in test driving vehicle after repair and having to leave vehicle because it wasn't repaired properly.

Thanks for your review, Value Buyer. Sometimes you can find the same car for less out there, but it doesn?t always come with peace of mind. All of our cars go through a rigorous 125-point inspection, thorough reconditioning process and come with both a 5-day money back guarantee and 30-day full warranty. We?re sorry you weren?t fully satisfied, but hope you?ll give us another chance again in the future.
