Overpriced.

Overpriced. I’ve been car shopping for several months trying to find a newer jeep. When I found one on there site, I checked the blue book value of it along with the value of others farther away. Sure enough they were almost $8,000.00 more than anyone else out there. When I called to see if it was correct, the sales rep told me it was and that if I wasn’t willing to pay there price someone else would. In my mind that’s just terrible ripping some unsuspecting person off that much just because you can.

Bought a Honda CRV and noticed a burning smell from the back tire. Took to my mechanic within a week of purchase to inspect the car and was told the caliber was stuck and needed to be replaced immediately because it was a safety issue and could cause a fire. I had my mechanic fix it. CarMax refused to reimburse me because I was supposed to bring to them to fix it. This doesn’t seem like good customer service. Given that they sold me a vehicle that was in need of an immediate safety repair I think some compensation was only fair.

Very Good Experience.... accept

Bought a 2015 Dodge Challenger with 5800 miles - great price compared with what the same car is going for today with 40K / 50K more miles. Process was easy. All my friends love the cards and strangers give me compliments. My only complaint was these cars go through an inspection where all problems are fixed. I bought the car in February and by the Summer when I finally turned on the A/C, it did not work. When I went to the repaair shop I was told it would cost me 41000.00 dollars as the hose was broken dehind the instrument panel. In my opinion this should have been caught by CARMAX and fixed before I picked up the car. Otherwise very happy - no problems other than that to date. CARMAX - please fix my A/C??????

This place shouldn’t get a single star, frankly. We...

This place shouldn’t get a single star, frankly. We purchased a vehicle from CarMax. Within less than 10,000 miles and five months of driving it, we've had to change the transmission fluid (it had not been changed, apparently, before they sold the vehicle to us - it should have been changed whether it was considered "due" or not) (a 500 dollar service), we have encountered a problem with a coolant fan (a 950 dollar repair), and the transmission has a malfunction: it jolts going from first to second gear (this has not yet been checked as we are in the middle of addressing the first two issues). We told Carmax we didn’t want to keep this vehicle. It is completely unreasonable for a vehicle to have this many issues five months / less than 10,000 miles into the purchase. We have no idea what any of the potential transmission troubles will cost to repair. CarMax has offered to cover ONE week of car rental while the car is repaired. This is completely unacceptable and is a complete insult. This is what the sales representative offered after speaking to management and what corporate customer relations has offered to help with so far. This resolution is not commensurate with the scale of problems and costs associated with these events. Carmax does not provide honest customer service and sales, period. Beware of responses from the merchant to bad reviews here: they’re purely cosmetic… a complaint to the Better Business Bureau we sent has gone unanswered for one month.

I paid $1400 to have a car that was sold to someone else. They kept my money and if I never called they would have never returned it. It took 16 days and AFTER I called they realized their mistake. The rep at East Haven literally told me to go kick rocks. Customer relations said the same thing. Now car prices have gone up on average and I have to spend more money to get the same car 16 days later.

Wasted over 3 weeks of my life and cost me money.

At a sales reps recommendation I paid $1400 to have a car transferred to me, AFTER a $200 credit because they messed up a PREVIOUS order. I was told it would take 21 days but it would be MUCH faster. After waiting 16 days without a word I called to get an update. I found out the car was sold to someone else. If I never called they would have NEVER returned my $1400 LOL. The service rep basically said "oops, call customer relations if you have a problem." Customer relations said "oops, I can't help you" They said the money would take 7-10 days and acted as if they were doing ME a favor by returning the money. So now I'm out of a car for 16 days, have a ding on my credit, and since covid made prices go up, I now have to spend MORE money to buy the same car. When all I did was follow THEIR procedures. Best of all VROOM sent me an email 7 days after I paid the transfer fee offering me the same car at $1k cheaper and I said no because Carmax had my money.

Excellent customer service during pandemic

We were selling a vehicle. Staff contacted us to give us a link to provide all info for the car we wanted to sell. They gave us an excellent price. ( as evidenced. By kelly blue book ) When bringing car to dealership in East Haven - staff had gloves and masks on. They came outside for paperwork. They were organized. Social distancing followed. We are very please with our experience.

Good luck getting any communication

Found a car on carmax and wanted to reserve and transfer to the East Haven, CT store. Had to call many times to actually reach someone on East Haven. Messages were never returned. Finally got through to a salesman and paid for the transfer from VA to CT. Was told 3-5 days. Long story short, many unreturned calls and texts [some were randomly answered with no follow up] and car is still not there two weeks later. Finally get a call that there car was there and that I could come and look at it two days later, after 5:00. The last guy to call [Fourth salesman] was very nice and tried to be responsive. Given the passage of time and total crap follow through beforehand, I gave up an bought another car elsewhere....I have no idea how they get good reviews or how they stay in business.

Very sad

I had an appointment called 2 hours ahead to let them know I would be at least a half an hour late. So I arrived went to the desk to check in and told them my name and that I had called to say I was going to be late no problem. They told me to have a seat and someone would be with me waited 10 minutes nobody came over. Then waited a few more minutes a salesman came over and asked if we needed help said yes he said I will get someone to take care of you. 15 more minutes pass still nobody a bunch of sale people standing together doing nothing and as I decided to leave a salesman named Mike came over and asked if we were being help told him no we been here for over a half an hour so he said he would help us out. He went explained the process and the car was appraised the price was not what we were looking for. I thanked him and we left but the rest of the staff at carmax very rude I will never go there again. There motto is the way car buying should be they should change that to the same old Stuff all the other dealers are doing also just in a bigger place that should be the motto. Thanks to Mike the only good worker there we would have walked out the other sales people were more concerned about not working.
