Everyone at the dealership was wonderful.
Everyone at the dealership was wonderful. They were timely in their online responses & text messages. However I’m only giving 3 stars for a couple of reasons. After leaving the dealership I noticed a headlight was out. When I texted the salesman he said “sorry I forgot to check that”. I guess I should have checked it but it is not legal for a car to leave the lot without proper working headlights. The other reason is that the car was advertised as having remote start when it does not. Again, something I should have tested myself. Overall I am happy with the purchase. It was a smooth & easy process.

Chauvinistic
As a woman, have you ever had an owner of a dealership ask you to " put on your big girl panties and make a decision."? The owner of this place did, Mark. As a woman, I do not recommend dealing with them.

$500 will be added to the sticker price.
I went in looking for a used Subaru, the sticker price was fair and I was paying cash. What I got hung up on was the $500 documentation fee, I was from out of state and would be handling the tax, license and registration myself. I asked them to knock the $500 off their sticker price they couldn’t do it so we parted ways. I understand the legalities around having to charge a doc fee equally to all customers but having made it $500 is a bit excessive. Other dealerships like Echo Park have a doc fee significantly lower.

I would be hesitant
I would be hesitant to buy here, my husband and I test drove a truck and liked it but we wanted to think about it. They said they would take 24000 and fix a dent. We told them we would think about it and let them know ;3 days later my husband decided that was the one he wanted so he called to tell them, now they say it is going to be 24500 or 24995 if we want the dent fixed. We had also been warned while we were leaving from the initial visit by a guy behind the dealership that they were "crooks" . To bad, I'm too leery of them now ,the initial offer we felt was a fair deal and it wasn't so much the $500 that was the problem but now you feel as if you cant trust anything they say or offer.

Elizabeth McCord, I wish we could have served you, unfortunately customers leave bad reviews when they don't get the price they hoped for. We have no offers in writing from you or us? Strange to me how the alleged "guy behind the building said they are crooks" yet you managed to call back 3 days later and make an offer? The supposed guy must have been really credible!! Our cars and service speak for themselves and thousands of customers over 20 years have put their trust in University Motors! Best of luck in your continued shopping!
Sneaky
Watch out for the $499 document fee. Totally my fault for not taking the time to review the documents closely. But the saleman was rushing through everything and just didn’t really give us time to review. My plates won’t be in my county so I will have to go to my clerks office and do it myself. What exactly is $499 for then? Complete rip off! They promised us a repair to the car but then wouldn’t fix it unless I said I would pay for anything else that would come up. It was a window repair. The whole process was very sleazy. Plus the salesman was so rushed I kept asking him if the documents should use my legal he would go back and fix it. When we got home and pulled out the paper work to add my insurance and the registration was not in my legal name. I will never return or recommend this dealer.

Becky, Certainly you are entitled to you opinion however the $499 doc fee is the lowest in middle Tennessee. Also, you declined the extended warranty so your purchase was AS-IS. Hopefully the used automobile will give you years of great service!
If Passive agressive is your thing!!!!
UPDATE: After looking through all of the 1 star reviews this place has and the responses from the general managers...it all makes sense now and I am utterly GREATFUL to have been treated the way I was. Strange maybe, but it SAVED ME from making what could have been one of the biggest car purchase mistakes of my life..... I SERIOUSLY suggest that if your considering purchasing a car from this place that you read the negative reviews before doing so......as I SHOULD HAVE BUT DID NOT. Had I done so I would have never contacted them in the first place...... Now I am kinda excited to read the passive aggressive response I get from them!!! Should be awesome reading!!! Let's hear it boys!!! Get passive agressive with me!!! I LIKE IT!!! REVIEW: During the course of applying for a loan for a car I was seriously asked to provide the salesman I was speaking with, a picture of my credit card or cash to prove that I had a down payment for the car??? I have never been asked this at any other car dealership EVER and I have purchase 4 cars to date of the course of my life.... It was insulting to say the very least, though I am pretty sure know the root cause of the really stupid request. They wanted a copy of my bank statement which did not show the amount of the down payment available. What lost them this sale was assuming I was lying (for what ever reason?). I have 3 different bank accounts. Then one I use for bill paying and every day purposes and the other two for savings and investments. They saw the everyday account and assumed that I did not have the cash available. If they would have come right out and asked if I had the down payment available now. I would have been happy to explain this to them. However, they choose to assume and lost a sale for it.... Of course, as SOON as I said NO to the salesmans request for the picture, he passed the buck on to his sales manager saying "he needed proof of the downpayment" which was confirmation that apparently, their potential customers are not to be treated with respect or dignity. As expected when I told them to forget about the whole thing, the story changed back to oh well we don't really need it... For full disclosure, my credit score is not great, which I was upfront about with them from the start. In fact, I told them I was not sure I would qualify for the vehicle I was applying for but would like to try. (Incidentally my credit score is in the mid 600 range due to issues that happened years ago and that are being paid off....no bankruptcy so it is not horrible...just not great...) Why in the world you would treat a potential customer like a liar I do not know....but it is very bad business.... Advice to them....stop treating potential customers like they are liars.....i Advice to you reading this....there are lots of other lots out there that believe their customers.....I'd try them first...

Matt, Nothing passive aggressive here. The Proof of Down payment and Proof of income is a standard request banks ask for when a customer such as yourself has bad / marginal credit. Best of luck in your continued search.
All about honesty
That is correct, I purchased an 18 year old truck. However, I made a huge error in paying $6500 for an 18 year old truck. It took 5 weeks to get papers on a used transmission that was installed with no warranty. Like I said I made a severe error in paying that much for a truck that was not worth more than $3000. My mistake your gain. I've told several people to avoid University Motors.

Stephen, I would like to commend you for taking the personal responsibility for your purchase. I am sure that is a tough pill to swallow on all your purchases as you are difficult to please. Not a complaint on the DRIVE-ABILITY of your 18 year old truck, just a bitter complaint on the price. I am certain that the people you slandered my company to are aware how obtuse you are! Once again, we did not force you to purchase anything and I sincerely hope you find peace with your anger.
