More dealerships should be like this one..........

There are still some "Good People" in the car business. Let me tell you, don't let the fact that this dealership is a small business deter you from making the drive there. They have access to all the same inventory as the Large, impersonal dealerships do just not the games. I went in and talked with them, described what i wanted and a week later my phone was ringing with good news. I never have liked spending most of my free time car shopping. Well let me tell you don't have to a this company. Friendly, honest service. If i could give them a "6" Star rating I would.

Young and skeptical Couple

Let me first say upfront; My wife and I are not big fans of the whole car buying experience. There has been more than one occasion where we've gotten up and walked out because of how the sales and management staff insulted our intelligence (from two of the very large dealerships in our area I might add). Then my wife was searching on the internet one evening and ran across an SUV that caught her eye. The more she delved into the website, the more she liked what she was reading. It turns out, the owner use to be a manager for franchise dealers and had decided to leave that part of the car business and set out on his own. We read the history of his dealership along with the reviews on line and decided to give him a chance. Boy were we glad we did. My wife and I called in to the dealership and were immediately struck and how polite and professional Mr. Lightfoot sounded. He was informative and accommodating ; two things we hadn't experience at the so called "Big Dealerships". He set an appointment for us to come in and look at the vehicle we inquired about. When we arrived, the vehicle was already pulled up front and waiting on us to experience. Mr. Lightoot greeted us promptly and begin to show us all the features of the car that he had learned were very important to us. One thing I wasn't expecting was the fact that his dealership has all of their inventory fully serviced before he ever offers them up for sale. That and the fact that he handed my wife her copy of the carfax immediately told me we were off to a good start. You could tell he had done this for a long time. When we got back from our test drive, Mr. Lightfoot we over several financing options with us and tailored one that was perfect for our budget. I thought it was great that he was able to do all of the paperwork (to include getting us approved over the internet) so we didn't have to run all over town getting approvals and bringing back a check from the bank. We even left with permanent metal plates so we didn't have to take time off of work to go to the DMV. Overall, this was an amazing experience . We have found our dealership.

The Best quality vehicles I ever seen

I had a lot of people at my church and where I work rave about how this dealership was so honest and up front. Well let me just say they were the most polite and helpful place I've ever dealt with. They had unbelievable conditioned used cars and trucks. You could tell they spend a lot of time finding the right vehicles for there lot instead of the junk you see at other lots. We bought a very nice SUV that was 6.years old but looked like it was 1 or 2 . Mr. Lightfoot could not have been more professional and easy going. We never felt pressured to by until we were ready. He returned our phone call promptly and thruout the whole time, made us feel like we were his only concern. Definitely worth the drive. Thanks for doing it the right way. We'll be back!!!!

Simply the Best Buying Experience .....PERIOD

I rarely take the time to sit and write a review about my experiences when purchasing a vehicle but after the First Class treatment I received from this Used Car Dealership, I had to make the exception. I've have never been to a dealership where EVERYTHING is so transparent and up front. From how my wife and I were handled on the phone (extremely polite, knowledgeable, and accommodating) to his professional "down to earth" attitude upon our arrival, Mr. Lightfoot (the owner) could not have made our buying experience more pleasurable. Based on our work schedules, we could not come to the dealership until after the posted hours.......that was no problem for these folks. Without hesitation, Mr. Lightfoot ensured that he would keep the store open and would have the vehicle ready for our test drive. When we arrived, we were greeted with a smile and throughout the whole buying process with dignity and truthfulness.......something we've not found at car dealerships that's for sure. Smithfield Family Automotive even had local credit unions and Banks directly linked to them so we never had to run around and get our approval. Mr. Lightfoot even told us about their Nationwide vehicle locator service which enables them to find that "certain" vehicle that someone may be looking for. You can tell he really knows the car business. Another thing that we thought was great was how they have a service department that completely services all of their vehicles before they are ever put out on the lot. It was as though we were at some large scale franchise store but we didn't get treated like it. I could go on and on about our experience but to sum it all up...............We'll only buy our vehicles from Smithfield Family Automotive

No one is home!

Me and my wife tried for a month + to buy a car that was for sale there. We made the trip from Virginia Beach to Smithfield three times. If the owner answered the phone, he would always have something to do, but none of which was selling us a car. I am a family man as well, but I still must care for my work.

Outstanding Dealer!!

Outstanding auto dealer! Friendly, knowledgeable, and experienced people providing excellent service. Having served 33 years in the Navy, I have been to a lot of cities and dealt with a lot of dealers. I watched trucks come and go on the Smithfield Family Automotive website for a couple of months. I saw a Ford F150 that I really liked. I talked to Tom, the owner, a couple of times. Finally one Friday late afternoon I decided to take the hour drive to the dealership and checkout the truck. When I arrived they were closed. Tom opened the door and stayed late with me until we made the deal. The following Monday when I arrived to pick up the truck, everything was already in place. The dealership is very clean and well kept. Plain and simple, I love the truck and I really like the dealership. It is a great place to buy your next automobile. Believe me. it is worth the drive, I will definitely buy all my future cars from Smithfield Family Automotive, no hesitation!

Nothing but problems

From the time I drove the car off the lot, I had nothing but problems. About a week later I called and asked them about this. They agreed to assist, however after taking the car in, the problem was never fixed. When I called back asking if they had checked to see if my problem was fixed before returning the car the said yes. This was CLEARLY not the case. It is people like this that give used car salesmen the bad reputation.

Awesome People to Purchsase a vehicle from

I had such an awesome experience purchasing my vehicle from this dealership. Tommy and Amber both were so nice and wonderful to work with. I knew that purchasing a car was going to be a hard deal for me. They were amazing in doing all they could do to get me a vehicle I could afford. I was not expecting to buy a car the same day I first looked at what they had on my lot. I would highly recommend this dealership to anyone looking for a good used car and not wanting to go to a big dealership. It was great to make a purchase from someone that made you feel like family from the time you walked into the door until I drove off the lot in my new vehicle. I am a firm believer in supporting local businesses and will be doing so from now on when ever I need a vehicle.

Great Buying Experence

I was in the market for a good used pickup truck. I contacted the dealership to sell my car and to locate a late model truck. Tom & Bobby were great to work with and went the extra mile to find what I was looking for. I am very pleased with the truck they sold me and with the way the business operates. This dealership is a role model on how to treat customers and being honest.

Very Happy Military Man

I've lived all around the United States serving my country. So I've had a lot of chances to interact with MANY dealerships both large and small. I had some good friends tell me about Smithfield Family Automotive and how great the treatment was there. And even though they hadn't bought from there, they had visited the dealership and were very impressed with the professionalism and honesty that they received. I was in the market for a truck or Jeep and decided to check them out on the internet first. Let me tell you, they have one heck of a website. I enjoyed reading about their buying philosophy and their different way of selling their automobiles. My wife loved their television commercials they have on their site as well. Very cute!! Once I was impressed with the website, I decided to pay them a visit. Let me tell you right up front. I really expected to play the same old game of "you guess the price". Those things didn't happen. Mr. Lightfoot greeted me as I made my way around their inventory and from the time he shook my hand, I could tell this was a great atmosphere to be around. He is prior Air Force and has been in the car business for a long time (he told me how long I just don't remember). In any event, what a cool way of displaying their vehicles. All the prices are hanging right up front and they put these yellow cards in the side windows that even show you what the NADA value was on each vehicle, the miles and everything you want to know about it. After talking a while, he told me that they have a service dept that checks every vehicle out and they have them all certified to go onto their lot. I found a jeep that I liked and the first thing Mr. Lightfoot did was show me the Carfax and the repair bill on the Jeep. I had never had that done in all my years of buying cars. He was very patient with me and really made me feel relax. Every car on the lot was shiny and very well kept. Well, I ended up buying that Jeep and can't tell you how happy I am. They even do all your DMV work right there and they processed my loan at one of their Credit Unions that they use. I never had to leave and go anywhere. It was one stop shop and very open and honest. Changed my attitude on buying vehicles (at least at this dealership).
