I Had the best experience ever buying a vehicle when I went to Hopkins, the sales person I dealt with could not have been more professional, no hard sales... pitch, made me feel very comfortable and the rest of the team just made it that much better, I got just what I wanted "a fair deal" I would defiantly recommend Hopkins Ford for your next purchase!
I had outside edge wear on only my right front tire. My mechanic father and my local mechanic looked at it and said my camber was high. My mechanic needed... to order a kit to fix it but I couldn't wait as I was about to leave on a road trip. Took it to Ron Hopkins in Elgin. Told them what I wanted done and they said they could do it in a few hours. They instead adjusted the toe and rotated the right front and rear tires. I asked about the camber and they said the toe adjustment fixed the camber. I paid and left. After my trip I had fresh wear on the outside edge of my right front tire again. All of my tires are pretty new btw - 2 years old. Checked in with my mechanic and advised him of what they did and he told me that adjusting the toe would not bring down the camber. My dad concurred. Called Ron Hopkins and they insisted that the toe adjustment brought down the camber. I told them about the new wear on the tire and they had no response. They insisted that they fixed the camber with the toe adjustment, but after some back and forth they changed their tune and stated that the camber wasn't in need of fixing. They also advised me that I needed to replace all four tires. Again, my tires are fairly new, except the right ones (both now that they rotated them) have outer edge wear because of a high camber. I took it to another mechanic and consulted with the manufacturer. All information was in line with what my mechanic and father (who was an Air Force mechanic who worked on military vehicles and air planes) had said. I presented this info to Ron Hopkins and they maintained that the toe adjustment brought down the camber. All you have to do is Google it. ADJUSTING THE TOE DOES NOT CHANGE THE CAMBER!!! Their manufacturer's paperwork states as much! They are either completely dishonest with total disregard for this single mom's pocketbook and budget, or they are completely inept. I am leaning toward dishonest. They suggested I bring it in again. I refuse to pay them again to do something that does not need doing. My mechanic will fix the camber. I will not ever go back to Ron Hopkins and I caution everyone else as well. If you don't know about cars, they will likely take advantage of you. I learned a lot about camber, caster and toe. Even my 17 year old godson, who has taken automotive classes and tinkered on his parents' cars, knew right away that what Ron Hopkins was telling me was wrong.
Dear Sherry, Thank you for the feedback. I would be more than happy to go over our inspection report we provided at time of drop off showing the tire... wear, alignment issues, as well as our other recommendations for your vehicle. I can also go over our alignment results that were provided to you showing everything within spec. We will also honor the free in person alignment re-check that we offered you to show all alignment specs within guideline, related to your vehicle. Please feel free to call me personally to go over all of this information. Regards, Jeff Hopkins 847-741-7500
Over the decades, my family has used many car dealerships. But Ron Hopkins Ford in Elgin, Il is the best- Hands Down! Also, Jason Milburn has our vote... as the very best Salesman. Camera Still is having issues when I go over a bumps sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Was told failure was from aftermarket wiring but i'm... not confident that is the issue as this is the second time the camera has failed. This is a safety accessory that was purchased from Ford when the truck was ordered and now does not work. If it can't be repaired this adds liability if the truck were to be involved in an accident. Steering stabilizer fix didn't change anything truck still veers when driving at speeds over bumps on the highway. Which again is dangerous. I believe this is a Ford issue and not the dealer as they have done what ford has allowed them to do.
Saw the vehicle I bought advertised for sale at cars.com., at Hopkins Ford in Elgin. Took a test drive with the salesman who was extremely knowledgeable... and helful. The sales manager Jeff Hopkins even came by to see how everything was going. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. There was no pressure to buy as I told them I was looking at other vehicles. Came back with my wife and saw Ntundi the salesman again. He took us for a test drive. We ended purchasing the vehicle in the shortest amount of time its ever taken to purchase a vehicle. Jeff came by again during the process to make sure all my questions were being answered. The finance associate Cesar Mata was also very helpful. My complete experience at Hopkins Ford was outstanding and I was very happy with the vehicle i purchased.
The repair was timely and much appreciated. Hopkins has done all my service on the truck since I purchased it in 2016.
Found the car online a couple of hours away. The dealer sent necessary paperwork for my bank to secure my own financing before going to see the car. Price... was fair. Car was as described. On arrival, they had the car at the front open, and with keys in it for a test drive/inspection. After test drive, the paperwork took about 20 minutes and we left with the car.
