I made an appointment at 10AM to see a 2021 Tahoe premiere. I showed up , only to be informed that the Tahoe wasn’t “on site” , it was down by Kettner at a surplus vehicle holding center. Strangely, later that day, I received a phone call from a sales person telling me it was sold. About an hour after that , I recieved a 2nd call asking “ when I’d like to come in and see the Tahoe”….trust me when I tell you: I’d NEVER purchase a car from Hertz. Not only are you uniformed , you wasted my time .

With a heavy heart, I write this review for Hertz Car Sales, Kearny Mesa. I've had a long-standing relationship with Hertz, having bought 13 cars from the Kearny Mesa location and 6 more from Hertz on Kettner Avenue, totaling 19 cars. Additionally, I've referred three business associates who have collectively purchased another 11 cars, making it a total of 30 cars. Up until recently, I've had nothing but positive experiences with Hertz Car Sales. My relationship with Linda at the Kearny Mesa location has been particularly outstanding. She has always been incredibly efficient and helpful, and her support was one of the main reasons I kept returning. I got all the loans directly with hertz. I also had a great relationship with Steve, the former car sales manager, who left a few months ago. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been disappointing. The last two purchases I made, a 2021 Chevrolet Traverse and a 2022 Chrysler Pacifica, were under the new sales manager. Since then, I can definitively say I will not be returning to Hertz. The issues started immediately. Both cars were not detailed at all, and I had to get them detailed myself. Moreover, I have encountered numerous mechanical problems. The decline in the quality and quality control of the vehicles is apparent. The Chrysler Pacifica, listed as an 8-seater, was delivered missing a seat. I was promised that the missing seat would be provided as soon as one was located, but a month has passed, and I have received no seat and have been given the runaround. The main reason I purchased this vehicle, along with four others of the same model in the past, is that it offers eight seats, while most minivans on the market offer only seven. Tracy, the new manager, has not returned my emails or calls, which is very disrespectful to any client. I do not expect special treatment because I have bought many cars from them, but I do expect basic customer service. Immediately after purchasing the Chrysler Pacifica, it needed a ball joint/control arm replacement and wheel bearings, costing a total of $1,473 right out of the gate. The Chevy Traverse was problematic from the start, making a loud noise. Ten days after purchase, it began losing power and making a huge noise before completely dying. I had the car towed to a Chevrolet dealer, where the diagnosis was a cracked and corroded catalytic converter, resulting in a $3,200 expense. My main advice for anyone planning to purchase a car from Hertz Car Sales is to hire a mechanic for a thorough inspection before buying. You cannot trust them to provide a fully functional vehicle. Buying a car from Hertz these days is like buying one at an auction—you get no guarantees, just a lot of trouble, and you pay a premium for that! My main advice if you’re planning to buy a car from Hertz Car Sales is not to do it. However, if you are determined to buy from them, make sure to hire a good mechanic for a thorough inspection. Spending a couple of hundred dollars on a proper inspection can save you a lot of money in the long run. Be prepared for potential post-purchase expenses and no support from them at all. UNHAPPY WITH TIRES!
We just bought a 2021 nissan altima on 10/21/2023 and the gentleman that helped us was amazing and kind and so was linda the loan officer, but my husband had a issue with the tires as they did not look great and he asked the manager BRAD to put new ones one and he declined saying they were fine, we TRUSTED him and bought the car and this morning 10/23/2023 i woke up to two flat tires and the the other two with a PSI of 27, we also noticed a chunk of tire of missing from the right back tire. I am not happy, we jsut buy a car and now we have to get new tires!!! i emailed brad with no response, way to go HERTZ. Will not do business here again.

Good price and a great salesperon
We purchased a 2017 Kia Soul in November 2019 and were really impressed with the overall process. We first saw the car online and called in to see if it was available. The salesperson who helped us, Sylvia, helped us get the car to that specific store(it was at a different Hertz Used Cars location), was very responsive and helpful, and was extremely professional and knowledgeable throughout. The building the dealership is in could be in better shape, but the price we paid was great and the whole process was quick and easy.

We purchased a 2017 Kia Soul in November 2019 and were really impressed with the overall process. We first saw the car online and called in to see if it was available. Buyer Beware
Purchase a 2016 Kia Sportage from 5370 Kearny Mesa Rd, San Diego CA. Salesman was Brad Eggum, Nov 20 2017, said no veteran discounts but assured me that 115 point inspection was done with 12 month warranty and 30 days bumper to bumper guarantee. Paid cash and few days later the windshield washer did not work, so I brought it to KIA to find that the hose was disconnected and even if it was the pump the warranty is for power train. Two days later and cost, $150 to diagnose and reattached tube. Called Hertz used car dealer 9am 3 times and finally, Ms. America answers to say the manager is not in and will call back in 3 hours. 4 pm I showed up to explain why no return calls and the manager in the back office made excuses saying he returnef the call but no answer. I have a smart phone! Then he said he will reimburse my cost for the service with in 30 days and assured me that there was 115 point inspection done. Then I notice 15mpg after 3 tanks of gas. Since I was lied to several times, decided to check the air filter, cabin filter and spark plugs. It was never changed and the 115 point inspection was also a lie. I have pictures and evidence and will present this in small claims court. Buyer Beware, this is how they treat a USAF Veteran and aircraft mechanic, I'm sure there are more victims, they are the epitome of slimy used car dealership.

Good deals, easy and relatively fast transaction
Mark was my salesperson. He was knowledgeable and did not give me the "car salesman" feeling. He listens and pays attention to your remarks. I was very satisfied with the buying experience. Hertz gives great deals on those used cars, I did not even negotiate. The facility is comfortable but looks like a trailer with AC that does not need to be blasting! While the finance guy (bought my car cash) was very nice and courteous, the buying process could be shorter. Although this is not due to Hertz's financial service, but to the number of documents we have to sign. I have to point out that it was much faster at Hertz than at my previous dealership. So to conclude, go there, buy it, and drive home.

Small, but great choices
Went to the lot a couple of times before deciding on the one I wanted. Test drive a couple of different cars with no problems. Everyone was helpful and attentive.
