My experience with Freedom Motors USA has been through

My experience with Freedom Motors USA has been through the lady in charge of sales, Krista Tingly. She was so knowledgeable, professional, honest and kind. She alway responded quickly to any questions I had about my purchase and calmed my jittery nerves about buying a car on line. She has made it possible for us to have the freedom to do some of the things that makes life good. Thank you Krista!

Dishonesty & lack of follow up

My 9 yr. old daughter is terminally ill and in a wheelchair. Recently our last wheelchair vehicle was totaled, and Freedom Motors had one that we liked and bought, and took delivery on 9/27/23. In fairness to them, there were good aspects of the experience – our salesperson Dominic was friendly and courteous, explaining things well and was communicative as the build process developed, which I appreciated. The process unfolded as he described, and the closing process was easy and completed quickly. And upon delivery, having not actually laid eyes on the vehicle yet, I was delighted that the quality of the mods appeared to be better than our last one (from another mfr.). So all of this was great, and until closing I would not have hesitated to recommend Freedom Motors to my friends, family, or the rare disease non-profit and community we work with. However…at closing I learned that I had been lied to. As we were evaluating vehicle options, we saw the MSRP on the one we eventually bought was $43,720 [from the factory; before any modification work]. Upon later selecting that vehicle, I was surprised to see that the asking price was $46,380 - $2,660 more than MSRP for a new vehicle already ~1 model year old. I asked about it and was told that FMI does not mark up the vehicles in their inventory, they do pass-through pricing on these and the company’s profit made is in the conversion. Further, due to the state of the car market, these vehicles (Palisades & Tellurides, specifically) had been selling above MSRP and that’s just what the market was, so I could take it or leave it. Although I didn’t love that, car valuations had been elevated post-Covid and the rest of the experience had been good, so I trusted them and accepted it at face value. Upon closing the deal and doing the title paperwork, I was upset to see in the original papers (from a dealer in Ohio) that the actual purchase price by FMI was only $42,396. So instead of passing through their purchase price as I was committed to, it was actually marked up from below MSRP that they paid to above MSRP for me – a $3,984 markup and more importantly they dishonestly did the exact opposite of what I was told. You can understand my disappointment and frustration at this ethical violation in business practice. Either my salesperson lied to me, or maybe he was lied to by his management and unknowingly passed on false information that he thought was true. Before I posted a review, I informed their customer service dept. on 10/10/23 to allow for a timely response as I understand that it’s impossible to know what every employee is doing at all times. Their Sales VP, Justin, called me to discuss it on 10/12/23 and left a voicemail. I called him back the very next day and left a message that was never returned. I followed up with a text on 10/20/23, which has also never been returned as of a week later. In sum, I would avoid dealing with anyone who deceives their customers then becomes unresponsive after they have your money. If you do choose to do business with them, beware of anything you are told and ensure you verify what you're told and get everything possible in writing.

Horrible company

It really saddens me to share this, because I’m still in disbelief how badly my family and I were treated by this “family owned business.” I hope to spare anyone else from going through the same experience Pay attention to the negative reviews and the BBB complaints, you’ll see a pattern with this company. When complaints or problems arise, they cut off all communication rather than providing customer service. My husband is a disabled police officer, injured in the line duty, and we are in need of a wheelchair accessible vehicle. We loved the vehicles this company builds. From the vehicle brands they select, to the rear entry design, we believed we had found the vehicle for us. We were working with sales rep Dominic, and we had chosen a specific vehicle. He located the vehicle, in the shop, and provided us with a video walk-around, even noting minor problems that were being repaired, on this “ new” vehicle. Side note they don’t fix any recalls on the vehicle ps they have because it “takes too much time”, even if it’s a fire hazard recall! I asked if they give law enforcement discounts. Dominic texted ( knowing which vehicle we wanted) “I have a $2000 LE/ Service member discount that I will apply to WHATEVER you choose”. We were thankful, since we had to take money out of our home equity to afford this vehicle. Even though it’s not a purchase we wanted to have to make, we were excited to find this vehicle. Dominic then began drawing up a contact for the vehicle; and less than ten minutes after he gave us the discount, he called to say he would not give the discount. He explained that the vehicle was discounted to start with and he would not honor the 2,000 he promised. He said they don’t usually discount vehicles. I pointed out most vehicles on their site are discounted, and reminded him he said the discount would apply to “whatever” we choose. I could tell he didn’t like being confronted with facts and was getting angry with me because I thought they should keep to their word. Buying a 60,000 vehicle, unseen, I need to trust the seller and his word. He got angry, because I said I felt I needed to be dealing with someone I could trust and was true to their word. I asked to speak with his supervisor, and he refused to arrange that. I called and left a message for his supervisor, who never called. I called again, and the secretary told me I couldn’t speak with a supervisor, manager, owner or anyone, And she wasn’t sure if they’ll call me, because I said I would write a negative review. At this point I was crying, we really needed and counted on getting This vehicle. My husband called, because we got money out to purchase this vehicle and need it soon, because his wheelchair is coming. They cut off all communication. I started to look at business reviews on Google, Yelp, and the BBB. I saw many complaints about this same behavior occurring when people have problems with vehicles they purchased from Freedom Motors. We dodged that bullet. If you buy from here, I hope you don’t need to complain and nothing is wrong with your vehicle. They don’t want to deal with real people and do not want to be held to their word.

Don't stand behind their product

We purchased a new Scion XB in 2008 from Freedom Motors, about two years ago I noticed that the floor of the modification was spongy. After further review I could see that it was rusty underneath. I called Freedom Motors and talked to the local sale rep for our area about repair or at least help with the repair. He told me that there was nothing they could do and I should find someone in our area that could fix it, obviously they were not going to participate in any way. I have been looking for someone since then, either body shops or metal fabricators, they have all turned me down saying this is out of their normal scope. The rust is so bad now that it’s not safe for anyone to ride in the back, the entire box along with the hinges at the ramp are about to fall down. Yesterday I contacted Freedom Motors to see if I could ship the car there and have them completely redo the modification. Not even asking them to help with the costs. Their response was there is nothing they could do because it’s too rusty and they don’t modify the Scion SB anymore. So, I guess they do not stand behind their work even if its substandard, this folk is when you find out how good a company really is. You might be happy with your new modified car now, but hurry up and enjoy it while you can because some day you will be in the same place as I am. A rusty car with only 100,000 miles that you can’t drive.

Very satisfied with my first experience

Our family lives in Connecticut and connected with Dan Rogers by phone. We worked through our first experience with a conversion vehicle, and Dan walked us through everything, step by step. It can be an overwhelming process, but Dan and the team at Freedom Motors made it all come together in a smooth way. We just received our car, and absolutely love it. It has already changed our lives and improved the quality of our son's life in the short time we have had it. Thank you to Freedom Motors, and we will definitely be back in the future.

Stuck with a bad van

I bought a van two years ago. It was misrepresented. Had been in an accident andcthat was not disclosed. I was told it had leather seats and “all the bells and whistles.” None of that was true. It was bare bones, which I didn’t discover until the next day. Was delivered close to dark and I was pressured to hurry and sign the papers, including one that I accepted it “as is”. Needed a $600 dollar repair the first day I drove it, and has needed that same repairs three times since. They won’t do anything!

VERY happy to have found Freedom Motors! ?

I found Freedom Motors at the Abilities Expo in NJ. I called the sales lady after I got home. Britteny has been so helpful. She called me or texted answers whenever I had questions. I bought a 2017 Kia Soul an am quite pleased with it. Britteny even brought one from MI to my home in NJ to demo. It took a little time to convert the car for handicapped use, but it was well worth it. I didn't want a large van (although Freedom has them, too!) and was overjoyed to find this alternative. If you need a handicapped vehicle, check out Freedom Motors. You'll be glad you did.
