Service contracts, Vault insurance warning! Watch

With my daughter, I went to Duffys Auto Center in Covington. "T" handed me off to the finance guy "R." He has papers ready for me to sign. He says that I am signing for GAP insurance (red flag!). This was already on the contract! He did not ASK me if I wanted it first; however, I am familiar with this from a prior purchase elsewhere, so I want it. He informs me of what I am borrowing and with Interest, it will come around $20,000 at the end of the loan. He has me sign a page agreeing to a document fee ($200); however, there are multiple different service contract types on this page that can be circled. We discussed NONE of these, only the document fee. "R" says to go get a $1500 cashiers check, suggested by Duffys. He will get the paperwork done. When I return with the cashiers check, I am surprised to see "R" standing outside of Duffys with paperwork enclosed in an envelope. I was like, "Wow! These guys are so efficient!" Minutes later while I am driving, I ask my daughter to review the paperwork. We discovered he had ADDED $4000 for a service contract fee. He NEVER discussed a service contract, he did not talk about different types of service contracts, and he did not ASK if I wanted a service contract! I immediately turn around and approach "M," the manager, and inform him that I did not ASK for a service contract. I want this removed. After mention of the police, "R" finally begrudingly removes the service contract fee. He prints out a new contract. He says to me "let me go through this thoroughly, so there is no misunderstanding" like I am stupid or confused. He says, "This is your Vault insurance, this is your GAP insurance, and these are your numbers." I figure this Vault insurance is standard, since it is ALREADY on the contract. My daughter questions the Vault insurance and he says that it is in case the car is broken into. Very frazzled, I sign the paperwork, glad that the $4000 service contract fee is removed. Later that evening, I want to review the Vault insurance and GAP policy but "R" kept the old paperwork and only gave me a summary statement with the new numbers. I call and ask for "R" the next day. "Oh, he's at the Auburn store, no he's at the Covington store, and "oh he is sick." Dissapointed, I informed an Auburn store man what I experienced with "R." He says, "never been any complaints before." I told him that I think "R" is a slimeball. He says, he is Daniel Duffy, owner of Duffys Auto, he will not tolerate name calling, and he hangs up. For the paperwork and explanation of the Vault insurance the following Monday, we went to the Auburn store to talk to Daniel Duffy. The actual owner, Tim, and another person wave at us and "R" is with them. We politely ask for Daniel. Daniel is at home. "R" says that he can explain the Vault insurance and provide all the Vault paperwork which at that time, he does not do ( today, I still do not have all the GAP paperwork, only page 1 of 5). Very unproffessionally, he says "let me explain this to you in the least slimeball way." He comments on how I went behind his back and called the store. I told him I didn't call to talk behind his back. I asked for him. I would tell him directly. He then tries to kick me out of the Auburn store! This is where I feel that if I was alone, and my daughter was not with me, I may have been treated even more poorly. Finally, Tim Duffy (owner) stops "R" and helps us in his office. He explains the Vault insurance and gives me missing Vault insurance paperwork "R" did not give me. He even has me sign for the catalytic converter protection which was originally supposed to be included because of the fee "R" charged me ($999.00). Later in the month, I express my worries to Tim about "R" in an email. A couple weeks later he replied stating, there have been zero complaints, only praises for "R, " unvalidating me. He says he has taken the necessary steps with "R" and the matter is between them. Very unfortunate. CUSTOMERS WATCH OUT!

Run !!!!!!

Run!!! don't walk .. away from this dealership. I saw a 2012 Toyota Highlander that i liked listed Drove out to see it. Tahir was nice. The vehicle had dvd players in the headrests. No power and couldn't get them to work. The dealership manager had the audacity to tell me I could fix the problem myself.!! They absolutely knew that the player/monitors didnt work and still listed them as a feature. Then only offered $500 off the price of the vehicle. I looked at the Car toys website and they were $599 a piece to replace not including labor. NO THANK YOU The leather seats had wear but needed a little TLC. I did a car history and the car came from South Carolina multiple owners before coming to Washington and going through two auctions. My wife had enough and walked out to wait for me. While in the car a another man. Maybe the owner went out to "look" at the problem and when he was walking back in the dealership looked at her and was laughing. These people thought i was a joke or stupid and were just playing games trying to sell me a lemon for the highest price. 😒 I went to Micheals Bellevue Subaru and was treated like a real customer by Christian Graham. He was wonderful go see him instead of these people.

Nooope

I went into this dealer looking for a van that they had posted online at their Ottawa location. Show up to find the van was infact at a different location. I walk into the dealer and no one even walked up to meet me strike one. I started to ask about the van and actually had to tell them it had a salvaged title. The car salesman had to look it up to confirm bc he was unaware that it had a bad front end collision. He wouldn't come down on the price at all and was rude bc I offered less than the asking price. I told them ok and walked away. If anyone reading this has watched matilda that's what your getting. Walk no run from these scammers. Buying wrecked cars and band-aiding them to rip off the public is wrong!!! Multiple reviews I've found have the same response

Straightforward honest

Got a quality used vehicle for very fair price. Kaylee Leypoldt was our salesperson and she was delightful and knowledgeable. We were able to see their profit margin and come to an equitable Fair price for a used vehicle. All parties were satisfied. We drove away feeling positive about the entire experience. The entire transaction took less than 2 hours.

great car at a good price!!

We were looking for a SUV, tried a few different ones, and needed some few certain things. I was suggested by my brother to go to Duffy's and talk to Tim. We spent time with Sebastian Tim’s salesperson. We were looking for a Toyoda Highlander, he called me up they had a Lexus that was similar in build and features. For a few dollars more we got way more than we expected and we love the vehicle. One of the best car buy experience I ever had a real no nonsense approach.

Used Car Purchase

Terrible purchase experience - trusted these guys and they put me through the ringer. Expensive lesson and worst car buying experience ever. Not ethical here.

Excellent Service

This was a great experience. The salesman was not pushy which made it much more comfortable than most dealers. The staff was friendly and had great customer service. I would buy my next vehicle there again.

We can say we had fun buying a vehicle at Duffy's!

From the moment we connected with the team at Duffy's about a car they had listed on their site to our drive away from the lot, this was the best experience we've had buying a used car. No fuss, no muss, no stress, and they were fun to work with as well as professional and knew their stuff. From Jake and Daniel to Matt and Tim, we had the full support of a well functioning and well oiled team but without any of the 'used car salesman' feel. These are car enthusiasts who just happen to be running a business connecting people with cars. Thanks for a fabulous Saturday and to Jake for going 2 rounds on the test drive just so I could put the car into 'sport' mode!
