I had a really disappointing experience with City
I had a really disappointing experience with City Volkswagen of Evanston, pre-owned department. I found a used 2020 Tacoma TRD Off-Road (VIN: 3TMCZ5ANXLM313696) on their site and negotiated a deal remotely, as I’m based in Michigan. I told them I’d be taking a 6-hour train to pick it up. About 90 minutes into the trip, I got a call saying one of their porters had an accident and damaged the front bumper and headlight (see photo). I get that accidents happen, but their solution? $500 off, a rushed bumper repaint, and shipping me a new headlight—for me to install. I asked for $1,000 off and requested they cover headlight installation locally which I felt was more than fair, but they declined. This wasn’t my mistake—the vehicle now has diminished value, and the paint work was being rushed in a matter of hours before I drove it back home. I’m not a body shop expert, but that doesn’t exactly scream "quality." I ended up finishing the 6-hour train ride to Chicago just to turn around and ride 6 hours back—no truck, no resolution. They did offer to reimburse my train fare, which I appreciated, but that doesn’t make up for the time lost or the fact that they didn’t take full accountability. This truck was meant to be a surprise for my son this week. Instead, it became a frustrating reminder of how some dealers treat long-distance buyers. If you're shopping out of state—proceed with caution.
