I like to buy local and have owned Subarus for over 14

I like to buy local and have owned Subarus for over 14 years. I walked into the dealership knowing what vehicle I was going to buy and had done research on the internet to bring me up to speed on the new vehicle. The salesman and I communicated several times via message, directly by phone, and email (which was difficult at best on their end). We had agreed on an “out the door price”. I called the next morning and went over all the details on the vehicle and verified that the vehicle was available. I related that I would be driving directly to the dealership and making a deposit on the vehicle. The vehicle in turn would be ready in 3-4 days. I arrived at the dealership, and my current vehicle was evaluated for a possible trade in. I signed the proposal, gave all the necessary information requested in order to purchase the vehicle. At my request, “while the paperwork was being prepared”, I was given a tour of a vehicle similar to the vehicle I was purchasing. Then I sat for hours waiting. I finally got up and stated I was going to the bathroom and if we were not going to proceed with the deal when I came back, I was walking out. When I returned I walked up to the sales desk and the salesman related that the car was not available. The sales manager related that there were several miscommunications leading to the car now not being available. I had just called an hour previously to verify the availability of the vehicle. The salesperson and the sales manager were stalling for time attempting to locate another vehicle. If staff would have been straight forward and made me aware of the problem at the first point the manager became aware the vehicle was unavailable I may have still done business with this dealership. Positives: Dealership building is new and the service waiting area is very nice and accommodating. Negatives: -Dealers Fees are the highest of any dealership I shopped (+$400.00) -Salesman did not know the product as well as I did. -Price and bargaining typical manager mill -Unorganized -Email communication dismal I did get the vehicle I was looking to buy. I went with another Subaru dealer whose communication was one third the total with Fort Myers Subaru. I also made contact with four additional dealerships with little communication to arrive at an acceptable deal. One dealership even thanked me for considering them to buy from them even though they did not get a sale. In the future I will look deeper into dealerships that deal with a Costco or Sams auto dealership program. The hassle of bargaining for the price and the dealer fees are definitely worth the effort but tiring and nerve wracking. These do not exist with Sam’s or Costco. One salesman told me the dealership will no longer be doing business through Costco because they make the profit margin so low. Please pay attention to the “dealer fees” dealership to dealership it could be hundreds of dollars.

Highly recommend Subaru of Fort Myers!

Highly recommend Subaru of Fort Myers! Very calm environment and everyone is super nice! Between our salesman Gordo, sales leader Angel, and Lucas in finance, they put together a great deal we were comfortable with. We had an enjoyable car buying experience and would rate the whole team a 10/10. Come to Subaru of Fort Myers to experience how car buying should be!

Our car buying day was the best we've ever experienced.

Our car buying day was the best we've ever experienced. Eddie Bridges or Sales Adviser was Very knowledgeable. professional yet personsable througout the entire process. He showed us exactly what we wanted starting with the Outback base model and a test drive. Not what we thought we wanted, so then a Premium Outback just the color we asked for and all the safety features we could ever need. Loved it! Bought it. EVERYONE was courteous and friendly! Finance was a breeze and easy to do. Eddie met all our expectations and more. Extremely satisfied customers and would recommend this dealership. Thank you!

I do not recommend this dealer.

I do not recommend this dealer. Specifically the finance team. I am having a bad experience with an unwanted extended warranty and advance service fees. They refused today to make it right by taking the extra fees off the loan amount before sending it to Ally Financial. My payments will be higher now. Be aware and do not leave the dealership without printed documentation with the excuse that he printer does not work. That is what happened to us. Now we have to file a formal complaint and deal with this situation. This is a waste of our time and resources. I would not recommend this dealer at all.

My daughter recently purchased her first car from Subaru

My daughter recently purchased her first car from Subaru FTM, and it’s been an absolute nightmare. She bought a 2012 Honda Civic for $9,000 cash after being pressured by the salesman, who claimed it would be sold the next day if she didn’t act fast. Less than a week later, we discovered the car is unsafe to drive. The dealership’s own mechanic confirmed that the battery is bad, the brakes are completely worn, and the alternator belt needs replacing (if it's not the transmission!) —all totaling $2,500 in repairs. When we went back to address the issues, the dealership gave us ridiculous excuses, like blaming the Florida sun for the bad battery and saying the brakes wore out because they were “after-market.” Brakes failing after one week of driving? Seriously? Even worse, they claimed they didn’t know the condition of the car because it came from another dealer. How is that an excuse to sell a defective car? Selling an unsafe vehicle to a young girl who worked for years to save for her first car is beyond unethical. To top it off, I felt that because I’m a woman, we weren’t taken seriously. Sales, Management and the mechanic dismissed my concerns with condescending excuses and showed zero accountability for selling a defective car. This dealership refuses to cover the repair costs or make things right. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. They’re more interested in making a quick sale than ensuring their cars are safe or treating their customers with respect. Buyer beware!

We made a service appointment for an oil change with

We made a service appointment for an oil change with Subaru of Fort Myers for a certain time period. When we got there, we were told a 2-hour wait and that it's first-come, first-served. Why not tell us that when we made the appointment. I let them know that I was unhappy about that since we had an appointment. The service was completed within the hour after my complaint. We got home and in the next couple of days oil has been leaking onto our garage floor. I don't think we will be back, Subaru of Fort Myers.

I would give them negative stars if I could.

I would give them negative stars if I could. They are dishonest and deceptive — we made a deal with them to buy a car. We wired the money to them, and they changed the price after the deal. We call that bait and switch. We told them we would not pay more and demanded our money back. They have held our money for seven days and still have not refunded. They are telling us the check is in the mail. Where have we heard that before? Stay away from this dealership...you've been warned.

Will not go back to this dealer for service.

Will not go back to this dealer for service. Issues: 1- Routine service oil change, tire rotation, fluids. When picked up warning lights still on and showing washer fluid low. Response "yes noticed light on but you needed a new washer fluid sensor to show it was full in order for light to go out (and why was I not told this before or when I picked the car up) 2- Asked to check sensors as they were not working. Response needed new side mirror as it was cracked causing intermittent outage. Left car 3 days to get part in. When I returned home only back up sensor working, no others . Response "Oh we didn' t check all around only back up. So definition of sensors not working only means back up? 3- Steering wheel leather cover cut with piece flapping. Definitely not like that when I left car. Response "Oh we don't check things like that when you drop it off. Our technician said he didn't do it and he doesn't lie (I do?) 4- Got ready to pay. "If you use credit card 3% surcharge. " I wish I had been told that would have brought a check. Response "Oh I told you that on voice mail when car was ready." Replayed voice mail which said "Your car is ready, Thank you" No mention of payment. $1700 bill and still have to take to another dealer to complete issues. Manager called but offered nothing other than I should have bought warranty...this was NOT about payment at all as I gave no complaints about the bill though it was hefty! I left my car there 3 days so as not to have to return to such a busy area to get all issues addressed and they obviously did not.

Dealer response

We are sincerely sorry for your experience with us on your recent visit. During my call with you I was very gracious and empathetic to your concerns. I even offered to help you with further servicing your vehicle and the concern you had with the steering wheel that had nothing to do with us servicing your vehicle. We addressed your first concern and made the necessary repair and during our inspection shared with you there was another issue related to the warning light on your vehicle. We had a lengthy conversation and it ended with me offering to help anyway I can if you would allow us. Cars break and it is our duty to repair them and we take great pride in that. But when the vehicles don’t work as intended we know it can be frustrating.

Consumer response

No one told me about any other issues that needed repair until I called back to say that the service light was still on and other sensors were not working. We always fix any problem with our cars and my main concern was the inconvenience of bringing the car in and leaving for 3 days with work left to be done. If someone had called me and told me they needed to be fixed I certainly would have agreed to fix them!
