Poor Attention to Detail and Deceptive

Rarely do I take the time and effort to write a review of anything. If I do, it is usually to provide positive feedback and promote a product I love. In this case, I am taking the time and effort to write a negative review because the matter involves something of importance and something rather expensive. With that in mind, here are my thoughts. Occurrences during my recent vehicle purchase that negatively shaped my opinion of Kline Volvo: • Sales did not disclose that the vehicle only had one key fob and second one would cost me $400. In fact, when this information was ascertained and I stated I should have a discount and asked why they did not disclose the missing fob, their response was, “You didn’t ask.” Fair, but deceptive and not the best customer service. It left me with the question of what else were they hiding? • Sales was also purposely dishonest about paperwork informing me that one document stated that, by signing, I would be acknowledging that Kline Volvo would not disclose my personal information to any third parties when, in fact, the document clearly stated that their intention was to disclose my personal information to third parties. • When I collected my vehicle, the new tabs which I purchased from the dealership were neither applied to the plates or given to me. I needed to return later when I noticed the error. • The vehicle I purchased was used and sales informed that it had been inspected and I was told the vehicle was in great shape without any issues. When I had the vehicle inspected by a third party, it was discovered that the air and cabin filters had probably never been replaced, the rear brakes were in need of replacement and the windshield was beginning to crack. I tested the waters by bringing up the crack in the windshield. Kline never followed up on the matter. • Repeatedly, Kline Volvo spelled my name wrong on documents and my name is not even complicated. I needed to go over everything three times to make sure there were no errors. • Still, when my title came in the mail, it was delivered to a neighbor because they got my address wrong. Kline refused to correct the mistake which resulted in me going to the DMV to fix it myself. All along the way, Kline Volvo made obligatory apologies, but never really addressed any of the issues. They just shrugged their shoulders in a oh well, that’s the way it is manner. The reality of the situation is that it was a tough market. Used cars were in limited demand and Kline had the vehicle that I was looking for. In this type of market, I needed to make compromises that I would not normally make. The sum total of Kline’s poor attention to detail along with actual deception has certainly tarnished their reputation with me and I thought other potential customers should know as well.

Dealer response

Hi Kelly, thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience. We saw you also reviewed us on Google with the same review and we've responded to you on Google about 10 weeks ago and now adding that response here as well on DealerRater. It looks like you purchased a pre owned vehicle & you brought up concerns regarding inspection. At Kline Volvo, all of our pre owned vehicles are inspected and up to inspection standards as well as passed by the Minnesota guidelines for the sale of the vehicle. By our records of the vehicle you purchased, all mechanical and safety aspects were inspected and up to the standards. Note that for our pre owned vehicles, we do not inspect maintenance items, in which the cabin filter would be considered a maintenance item. As for the additional key, it wasn’t brought to our management’s attention that you were wanting an additional key. Please reach out to our pre owned manager so we can try to get that resolved for you the best we can.

Sales Team was awesome

I drove from ND to buy a Volvo at another dealership in the Mpls area the day I bought from Kline. A poor experience at the other dealership sent me to Kline. Sales staff was awesome and I felt like Jeremy my sales rep was working for me to get me the best deal. Sales manager was great as well. It was a great experience all around. I would suggest Kline to anyone looking for a Volvo. I love my new Volvo btw.

Great Sale people, rude used car Sales Manager

I recently sold my Acura MDX and was looking for a solid used car to get around the rest of the winter while I decide what new SUV to buy. I found a used 2009 Honda Accord at Kline and began working with Johnny and Laynie - both of whom were great. The problem came when my husband and I returned the next day to purchase the car. We are both middle aged and have had quite a number of vehicles between the two of us. My husband had been in contact with Johnny who indicated he would have some room to negotiate, as is usually the case with used cars - there is always some wiggle room even if its a few hundred dollars, especially since we were cash buyers. When we arrived, Johnny was with another customer, but greeted us and indicated that Laynie would be working with us. Laynie wrote up our offer and as usual took it to the sales manager - Mike - to start the negotiation. Mike was very condescending and rude. He started to explain that it didn't matter what our mechanic said - "it could be friend of yours" and "our certified mechanics check all the cars" as if customers will just blindly trust the dealership that every used car is completely free of issues? All that aside my husband asked whether Mike had a counter offer or was he saying that he was unwilling to take Anything off the price - which Johnny had indicated the could make some movement. Mike's response was "no, I'm not taking anything off the price, but I'll give you a tank of gas"? I politely told him that we certainly don't need "his gas" and we left. Money spends anywhere, and I certainly won't be spending any of mine with Kline. If Kline has a policy of no negotiation then Mike needs to make sure he publishes that so it applies to everyone since that was inconsistent with the conversations we had with Johnny. Mike's messaging and decorum matches or exceeds that of his very professional sales team, and certainly does not need to be interacting with some customers in the manner he did. I was embarrassed for him and went and kindly went and spent my money elsewhere.

Amazing service

Kline Volvo has always been top notch in all they do from our purchase of a Volvo to the servicing of the Volvo. Most recently they serviced our Volvo and gave us a loaner to use for the day. Their hours are extremely convenient. We dropped of the car at 7:15 a.m. and picked it up that evening at 6 p.m. We were notified by Bo when the car was finished and any other information we may need about our car.

Customer Service

While my buying experience was pleasant the after sale was not so good. Less than a week and 100 miles later we got a nail in the tire. Kline Volvo could care less. They told me to go to Tires Plus. While I understand that the new car warranty does not cover tires their response was not what I was expecting. When I called Continental Tire they said they would cover the cost of a new tire. Kline Volvo said they couldn't do anything because they are not a authorized distributor of Continental tires. I went to my local service station and they repaired the tire and gave me a warranty for the life of the tire. ALL FOR NO COST. They understand what customer service is !

Ultimate convenience and a great deal!

We loved the whole experience, but the convenience of not having to haggle over pricing while sitting at a dealership and instead having the vehicle delivered to our home for both the test drive and the purchase was a first for us. We will gladly work with Kline and their amazing staff (Nick and Laynee) again for our next purchase!

Best Car Dealer we have ever worked with

We have bought BMW, Audi, Range Rover, Saab and by far the best dealership we have worked with has been Kline Volvo. We actually debate if it is the car or our relationship with Kline Volvo and the level of service they provide that motivates us to buy another Volvo.

Great sales experience again.

I have purchase three new Volvos from Kline and have been treated superbly each time. The first purchase was the day after a deal with another dealer fell through, the second was a long and painful (for them) process but resulted in a perfect car. The most recent was a made to order purchase and I could not be happier. Even during the COVID-19 shutdown, Grant, the sales manager, communicated regularly as I waited from my car to arrive from Sweden. Peter my salesman, was always a phone call away when I have questions. Kline may not be the closest dealer to me but they are the only one I will buy from.

Excellent Fast Efficient Service

Dealer provides fast efficient check-in. Service advisor Bo Dunaski, is knowledgable and keeps me informed on the status of the work being performed and when finished, he clearly explains what was done and answeres any of my questions so that I understand it. My vehicle was returned clean with a fresh wash and within the time specified.
