Most fun I've had driving

I immediately liked the styling of both the exterior and interior of the A3. Once I took it for a test drive I was hooked! The acceleration and handeling are superb.

PERFECT car (for me that is)!

My hope is that this review helps those women who are petite (under 5'3") and feel overwhelmed by most luxury cars. I live in the city ( a very hilly one) and was tired of driving my Land Rover Disco, stressing about parking and paying for gas, and wanted to downsize (really downsize) and find something unique. So after a lot of looking and research, I went with the 2007 A3 3.2 S line. I needed a car with decent cargo space, good pick up and reliable handling in the snow and adverse weather. I looked at a lot of sedans and other hatchbacks like the GTI but wanted something a little more luxurious with the "bells and whistles" and one that I felt I could "fit" in where pedals did not seem so far away and the tilting steering wheel actually tilts to below your eye level (I'm 5'0"). If you are willing to pay for the bells and whistles, this car is it. It is really reliable in the snow (the only car in the last snowstorm that I was in this year which didn't slide on the highway and makes it up hills effortlessly in several inches of snow) and I've had it for a year with no issues. It's a joy to drive and I can pretty much leave cars behind at the stop light if I wanted to. I can also park it just about anywhere (some pretty tight spots). The bi-xenon headlights for some might seem frivolous, however, since my night vision isn't too good, they make a HUGE difference in visibility for me also given my height, since they adjust to the topography of the road on which you are driving. The only negatives I see are the price and mileage since I'm mostly a city driver (about 20-24mpg) When I've taken the longer drives though I can get about 30 mpg which is commendable for a car which is considered a sports car by some. As a comparison, I just had a pick up at the airport in a BMW 750il, and I felt like I was a 3 year old in that car.

Nice package

A wagon that's really fun to drive yet gets good mileage. The interior is nice, but could be improved. The hand brake is poorly located.

Get the DSG -- You'll thank me later...

After years of stubborn insistence that manual trannys are best, the A3's DSG finally got me to switch. It's that good. Over the years I've passed over otherwise wonderful cars (most notably the lovely Audi A4 cabrio) simply because they didn't offer a stick shift (I bought a BMW 325 convertible instead). I first drove the DSG in the VW GTI, and was immediately blown away by how smooth and seamless the shifts were. Power from the 2.0T engine is also impressive. All of the articles I read said that the DSG was actually faster than the manual, and after driving it I believe it. I've been driving manual cars almost exclusively for nearly 20 years, and I don't think I could possibly shift that fast. Especially in "S" mode it will really put you back in your seat. The DSG even downshifts aggressively with a nice throttle blip at each step. I was really afraid I would miss clutching and shifting my own gears, but the A3 with the DSG is so much fun to drive I don't miss it at all. I can still shift if I want via the nifty steering wheel mounted paddle shifters, but I rarely do... The "D" setting is ideal for my relaxed morning commute while I sip my coffee -- and "S" is great when I want to spice things up a bit. Considering that the A3 and GTI are virtually the same car, why did I choose the Audi? I actually think the VW is a better value (it starts at around $3K less and offers some standard features that are optional on the Audi -- like the 6-disc in-dash CD changer). I think they're both great cars (and if getting the most bang-for-your-buck is important go for the GTI), but I found the A3 to be weighted more towards luxury than sport -- which was a better match for what I wanted. And frankly the Audi rings also have a little more cachet than the VW symbol -- and there's something to be said for that, too.

What a wonderfull car!

I drive an audi a3 2.0 turbo every day, and it is the best car for the money. It is a blast to drive, and is very fuel efficient, especially with a manual transmission. I get 23 city, and 34 highway. I love the open sky panoramic roof. I would recomend this car over and audi a4 or a bmw 3 series or mb c class. This is because It is the smae size but with a hatch and the available panoramic roof. The navigation is very easy to use, and the bose sound system is great! This car is simply amazing.

I love this car

It's small enough to fit into any city parking space, yet spacious enough inside to haul furniture (it fits more than my husband's Toyota Solara, which is a much bigger vehicle overall). The pickup is amazing, and even driving long distances is comfortable. I have not had a single problem with the car since I bought it in June of 2006. As a bonus, mine is purple. My only complaint would be that I was hoping to get slightly better gas mileage, but I drive mostly in city traffic, so what can you do. Overall, this is a fabulous car.

Why get a sedan when you could get an A3?

I had tested the BMW, the Benz, and the Audi, but just before I was about to but an A4, I saw the A3. I chose the A3. It is fun, nimble, and flawlessly beautiful. I love the open sky system, because I think panoramic roofs are really neat. I bought mine with a 6 speed manual because it is more fun with a manual and you get better gas millage in most casses. It has agreat variety of colors and is surprisingly big inside. I chose this A3 over a small luxury sedan because a the A3 is just like an a A4, but with a larger trunk, which is very practical, yet it isn't sacrificing any amenities that an A4 has. The quattro all wheel drive makes snow driving feel confident and easy. I strongly beleive that if you are looking for a small luxury sedan, you should consider an A3 too. You will love it, and I promise that. Just a bonus, I get 34 mpg on the highway, and 26 in the city.

Drives by everything including the gas pump

I have an A3 with the 3.2, and what a fun car! That open sky system is so neat, and give the passengers a good look at the sky. The A3 seems small, but it is about the size of an A4, just with a hatch. It is very quick of the line(0-60 in about 5.9 seconds), but it accelerates well on the highway too. The shocks are a little bit questionable, but not bad. This vehicle has been so reliable, and it is still under warranty. The rear seats fold down for added versatility. My only complaint is that I would have liked to get it in dark blue, but Audi does not offer that color on the A3. Another bonus is 29 mpg I get on the highway. The navigation system is so easy to use, especially when comparing them with BMW's i Drive system. The Vienna leather is very, very, very smooth and soft and comfortable. My recommendation: GET THIS CAR!

My favorite car ever owned.

What a car! I was skeptical of spending 30,000 grand on a hatchback, but the A3 is myfavorite cars that I have ever owned. I average 32 mpg on the hwy. I love the open sky system. My son told me that he felt like a king with a sunroof in the back seat. It picks up well, with no noticeable turbo lag. The interior is completely breathtaking, like any Audi. The manual gearbox is a blast, and the quattro all wheel drive conquers snowy days. If you are looking for a fun, luxurious, and fuel efficient hatch, this is the one.

Best hatch I've ever owned

I have always loved VW's and Audi's, and the A3 is no exception. I bought it just after my VW GTI was totaled, so I replaced it with the A3 2.0. I needed a bigger car because of my newborn son, so The A3 seemed perfect. It drives well, especially in the snow, and the cold weather package is great in the winter, especially because my restaurant where I work does not have a garage. It is much larger than I expected, which is good because I can fit all my grocery's in the back. The DSG is fun and fast. The bottom line is, this car rocks, because it is safe, luxurious, quick, and fuel efficient.
