A very beautiful vehicle to own. Just keep up with the maintenance and you will have no problems. The ride is smooth and the Northstar Engine gives you top performance. I highly recommend using premium gasoline for the 1993 Allante since it has the Northstar engine.

Everyone loves the styling and looks of the '93 Cadillac Allante. Yet, the handling is phenomenal. This car turns on a dime and positively hugs the road while doing so. It has lighting quick acceleration and stops relatively quickly. I always thought the Camaro Z28 was the best handling car I've ever driven. That was until I sat in the cockpit of the '93 Cadillac Allante. I am assuming the '87 thru '92 Allante's have similar handling. I can only speak for the '93 Allante. Of course, the '93's have different engines and, from what I understand, an upgraded suspension. But it wouldn't surprise me if the older models were equally road-hugging. If you are considering a '93 Allante because of its styling and good looks, there is nothing wrong with that. You surely won't be disappointed. But if you were wondering about the performance and handling of this (final year) model, you will be pleasantly surprised. Purchase this model with confidence and don't be afraid to pay a little more if it means getting the exact color combination you desire. Too bad they don't make this car anymore. In my humble opinion, it is in a class by itself and the '93 model is simply a gem.

I was looking for a comfortable, fun to drive convertible my wife and I could take on long weekend trips. My tweaked 1966 Corvette roadster is just too intense to be a comfortable highway cruiser. I had forgotten about the Allante until I saw two at a local car show. I ended up buying a low mileage, daily driver 1993 (Northstar V8) with a hardtop that I found in Florida. This car is a lot of fun to drive. The car handles very well; no excuses needed for its FWD. The steering is responsive and the ride is comfortable on long trips. The suspension constantly adjusts to give the best combination of control and isolation. It works very well. This was the pre-cursor to today's MR shocks used on GM performance cars and Ferraris. The fuel economy is better than I expected (17-18 MPG city and 24-25 MPG on the highway). The engine is a jewel. It loves to rev (6,700 RPM redline), is very torquey and sounds very un-Cadillac like once it gets past 4,000 RPM. The throaty exhaust note always makes me smile; it's not as aggressive as a Corvette but you can still hear the car a block away at WOT. The transmission is responsive and shifts firmly at 6,500. Although it is not a sports car, it is quick: 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, 14.8 @ 95 MPH 1/4 mile) and fast: 144 MPH top speed (per Car and Driver). The acceleration numbers are as good as a 350 HP '65 Corvette and a 454 '73 Corvette; the Allante top speed is higher than both those Corvettes (per Car and Driver). The 4 wheel disc brakes (ABS) have adequate stopping power but are not outstanding; I may upgrade to larger rotors and stronger calipers in the future. The interior is nicely done with quality materials used throughout as you would expect on Cadillac's most expensive car in 1993. The leather looks and feels good and the 8 way power adjustment with lumbar make it easy to get comfortable. My car has analogue gauges (vs. digital); large tach and speedometer (160 MPH) and 4 auxiliary gauges, including oil pressure. The square IP design isn't my favorite look but it's certainly functional. There are two center consoles with storage areas as well as a glove box. There is also a lot of space behind the front seats (about 18" deep, 2' high and 4' across) and there is a center flip up panel that allows access to the trunk from the front seats. This interior area easily holds a cooler and a picnic basket. The trunk is huge; perfect for hauling back antiques or car parts. It is as big as the trunks on most mid-size cars. It is fully carpeted with quality material and looks sharp. The audio system sounds good; this was Delco's first high performance sound system replacing the Bose units used on previous years. There are all kinds of whistles and bells; this is the only car I've owned that displays "Good Morning" in the DIC when I fire it up early in the day. The cost for pristine, low mileage Northstar Allantes today (2014) is less than a used compact; it is very affordable. I expect my car to appreciate in the upcoming years. There is a solid support system for Allante owners including a web site and several dedicated individuals who supply parts and technical advice to help keep these unique automobiles rolling. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a classy, classic convertible that combines sport, utility and comfort in a Pininfarina styled car (the Italian firm that designs many Ferraris) that still turns heads and has people ask "Is that a new Cadillac?".

Cadillac Allantes were built from 1987 to 1993. The powerful Northstar engine, once named one of the 10 best engines in the world by Wards, was only placed in the car the last year of production. It had nearly 300 hp and nearly 300 foot pounds of torque with 32 valves and burned premium fuel. Earlier models had a 200 hp engine and different suspension, making it a better car for city driving on bad city streets, while the 93 utilized a smart suspension that reacted to every bump independently at each wheel. Both versions are dreamy on the highway while economy is probably average at around 22 to 24 highway using premium fuel. Very few parts are available from Cadillac new anymore, but three devoted individuals in California, Florida and New Jersey have most parts used in case you need something. I have owned three of these! A 91, and two different 93's. I prefer the 93 for it's stunning performance off the line. All have traction control and on-board diagnostics, way ahead of it's time back then. You don't need to have someone read a code on these cars, just read it yourself on the dash. Bose radios in the early models do have some issues with the speakers, while the 93 does not. Cadillac replaced the Bose with their own system and it sounds really great. I would recommend these cars to anyone looking for a stunning toy car. Cadillac cars have never been known as truly very reliable in ratings from Consumer Reports, but very few cars are. So expect you will have to pay to have some parts replaced from time to time, but the rewards are well worth it in my opinion. If you like to get your hands dirty and do your own work, get a service manual. This is not your father's Cadillac and a lot of new technology that's in this car could stop you cold without the book. This was the most expensive Cadillac ever built at this time. Average prices were just below and then above $60,000 in the last year of production, 1993. In May of '92, the Cadillac Allante was the Indy Pace Car. All these Allantes were built in the highest and longest assembly line in the world. Designed in Italy by PininFarina of Farrari fame, parts were shipped to Italy from around the globe including Michigan by 747 Boeing aircraft, the bodies assembled in Italy and then flown back to Michigan on those same 747 aircraft for chassis assembly. Their styling is timeless and since so few were made over the years, a lot of people think they are new Cadillac models. I love mine, but maybe that's just me. I do most of the little projects on the car myself and recently took it on a 3,000 mile road trip.

I have driven an Allante since 1994. With the Northstar Engine I get 23 MPH,can cruse at 80 all day long,with Ice Cold Air,a CD player,and the top down driving is magnificent. My Allante turns more heads than a Muscle Car,and I can park next to a BMW or Corvette and not feel out of place. All this for around $15,000 for a pristine car.This and a HUGE trunk with the top down. THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS on a budget. Joe Z

This car looks good but there are some underlying issues. The milage on this vehicle is of concern. On multiple occasions the dealership that serviced this vehicle over the years constantly reported higher milage than the 37,500miles on the vehicle now.
