237,000 miles and counting
This car replaced my 1993 Civic when the corrosion of the midwest did in the suspension, which was not worth repairing on on a car with 279,000 miles. Now my current Civic was approaching this benchmark fast befor Covid. It had some big shows to fill and easily did so. No problems, and it has been beat to crap. This is city driving, so the engine hours are through the roof. Average maybe 20mph thoughtour it’s life. Did need it’s starter replaced once, although this was less expensive than the old timing belt tuneup on the 93. There was an issue with thinning paint on trunk and the car has been hit with enough rocks and when parked that she is far from pristine. I vouch for the safety as this is the insurance replacement of one that got totaled with 60 miles on it back in 09, a roll over. Run off road by semi whose brakes failed. I find the car quite comfortable for commuting purposes and the AC still works. It’s a DX-VP, so she’s awfully spartan by modern standards. Now that I work from home, the miles are coming slower. I assume a better conditioned one with low miles would hold its resale value pretty well. I’d like to justify getting a new car to scoot around town but it’s impossible to justify.

Honda Civic problems
We have had this car for three years. You can feel every bump in the road. Also the material around the doors peals. All in all I would not buy this car again. It is not comfortable.

The exterior paint is horrific
I will not buy another Honda. This is my third car and it is the second with very bad exterior paint. The clear coat has pealed and it looks like the car has been out in the sun too long. The trim has deteriorated and pealed away. This car only had 65,000 miles on it and so far there have bee 4 recalls. The transmission went bad just after the warranty expired. This is not the quality I expected.

Decent, reliable car
I always complained about my Civic not being a coupe, but the number of doors aside, this car served me well for the whole five years I had it. It never had any issues beyond typical wear and tear - needed new brake pads, a new muffler, a new tire, and a new battery during that time and that was all aside from typical maintenance like oil changes. Aside from that, it got decent mileage, ran nicely, and has a pretty nice stereo system. The paint is pretty crummy and dents/chips easily, so expect to amass a nice collection of little scuffs. The only reason I no longer have my Civic is because I hit a deer with it and my insurance said the repairs would cost about as much as the worth of the car. But man, I sure was proud of my car! I hit that deer at 60mph and it kept right on going! Didn't even notice a change in the way the car handled or anything and it drove beautifully for several miles as I tried to find someplace with lights to wait for a tow truck. I'd definitely recommend a Civic. It's reliable, it's safe, it gets pretty good mileage, it's comfy, and it's got enough space in front, in back and in the trunk. And for those of us who are lazy, it's got a remote start so you can defrost your windshield without leaving the house.
