10-12 mpg; problem with shaking; bad transmission
1. Horrendous shimmy when I first bought the car; new tires, balancing and several alignments seem to have helped, but the shake is still there. 2. When the car hits overdrive or 5th gear (not sure which), sometimes there's a grind and sometimes there's a grumble - Not sure how this will end. 3. It's a big wide car - not like some large SUV's, but it took me some getting use to. Especially in Boston. 4. Over 100,000 miles and the engine does not leak oil between changes, so it seems solid. 5. The driver's manual suggests that you don't lock the differentials (VTM-4) when turning tight corners on on-road surfaces. You shouldn't need to lock them under those conditions, but it implies the differentials are weak. 6. Power is so-so, but the A/C really seems to draw from the power. Then again, who cares about the 0.5 seconds you might lose. Test driver advice: (a) take it up to 85 to see if it shakes, especially at the steering wheel (b) Make sure the transmission shifts smoothly

Great Grandkid Hauler
Bought my 2004 Pilot used in Dec 2007 with 46,000 miles, now has 130,000 miles and going strong. Original brake pads just replaced at 125,000, and had the timing belt/105,000 mile service done, so should be good for at least 200,000 miles. Able to take all 5 Grandkids to the pool or park with no problems. Adding a rooftop luggage hauler makes the longer trips with adults and kids easy. Amazed at how the value has held. Paid $22K for the Pilot used, and the Credit Union recently listed it's value at $11K...and that's for a 9 year old vehicle that originally cost $34K new. Will buy another one when the time comes.

Good buy
I bought my used 2004 Honda Pilot with 66,000 miles in it and had to pay $1300.00 to replace the brake pads. Other than that I really like my car. It is powerful, I feel safe driving it with my kids, and manuverability is excellent despite its rather large body. The gas mileage is not too bad either for an SUV. It's been great!

Love Honda Pilot But Wish It Was Longer !
I love my Honda Pilot but wish It was longer ! I need the 3rd row seats plus cargo room ! Now I have to pick one or the other ! Honda needs to make the Pilot longer to compete with Yukon and Suburban. I dont really want v8 but I will soon need a longer SUV since I need the 3rd row PLUS cargo room ! Hope Honda fixes this problem .. This is my 5th Honda so I hope they make a longer v6 or better yet v4 Pilot soon ! Honda, make the best family SUV even better soon and your sales will skyroket !

Love, Love, Love this Honda!
This car has been wonderful! I bought it used and have had no problems with it. The gas milage isn't wonderful but better than expected! It has loads of room and is very comfy inside. I love the seat warmers in the winter - but not so chachi on the leather seats in the summer. I would defiantly buy another pilot! I can fit two car seats and 4 older kids in the car - no problem! Loads of room!

Love the Car hate the lousy gas milage
I bought this car used to tow a boat and carry kayaks. It is great for all that and it holds a ton of stuff! Very reliable. Downsides are very bad gas mileafe (15-17 mpg) and the paint chips easily. So, this is a perfect second car for carrying family and toys (bikes, boat, kayaks, etc.) but it is NOT a good first car for high mileage driving.

Depreciates bad
I really like driving the Pilot, but Honda quality is not what it use to be. $28,000 new now worth about $11,000 6 1/2 yrs later. Don't buy a new one.
