2009 Hyundai SONATA consumer reviews

I love this vehicle! I had this vehicle for over 8 years and it still drives beautifully. Plus I love many of the features such as satellite radio, emergency control in case you lose control of the vehicle briefly. I highly recommend Sonatas to anyone looking for a sedan.

This is the most reliable car I have owned to date. I keep it maintained and change the oil myself with extended mileage full synthetic and is still humming along. A couple things in the interior have worn down or broken after extensive wear, but no complaints otherwise.

I bought this car brand new back in AUgust 4 2009. It was a great value because I received a $3000 factory rebate.Compared with the other midsize cars, I felt I made the right decision. The car looks nice , especially the front end,it has a nice ride while driving on the highway going over 40 mph,its very roomy front and back, since I am 6ft 4.Mechanically, pretty good since I had to replace the flex pipe ,a battery, and a mechanism on the starter(fortunately for me, it was still under warranty) .The only complaints have about the car is this, the car could handle better because the car has a buoyant ride. Also, I goe through brakes (rotors and calipers) ever 10- 15 k miles.Maybe because I live in a city.Overall, these Sonata's are good cars and they are just as good as a Camry,Accord, or Altitima.

Note: The owner(s)/driver(s) of this car operate and maintain this vehicle properly. After almost 10 years (car was built in January 2008) and way over 200,000 miles, the car still looks great, the paint is shiny, no visible body rust and no mechanical issues. No leaks/rattles, nothing. During the lifetime the only things that were changed (besides regular maintenance) were 1 battery, 1 right control arm and a new radiator. That it is. Safe (5-star rating, equipped with full set of airbags), large (EPA rating, more interior space than i.e. a Accord or Taurus), reliable and efficient (35 mpg+ is not a problem). Having a great dealership helps.

It is perfect size for our little family. Great gas millage. Lots of space for our family. Lots of room in the trunk for space and traveling lots of plug ins

Bought this car used in 2010 with 16,000 miles on it. At about 40,000 miles we got stuck in flooded intersection - car died and started to float. I just kept starting it, jump a couple feet, die, float, start, jump, die & float until made it a couple hundred yards to dry road. Drove home an hour with water up to my knees. Car even drove for another day, then pooped out. Ins suggested instead of totaling the car, take money for repair & sell as salvage. Well, we ended up replacing the computer ($9,000) and a couple years later 9at 80k miles replaced transmission with a salvage one ... and the car keeps on truckin'. It now has 142,000 miles and last month on a trip I was getting 32 mpg!. (Get about 28 mpg city.) Power accessories still strong. My ONLY complaint is that the drain tube running from the sunroof stops up & drips inside from top of windshield over steering wheel. Just have to have it blown out once in awhile. Absolutely will replace with another Hyundai when the time comes.

The car has everything I need, not to mention a large trunk. It's comfortable and runs great. Love Cars.com

Purchased new in may of 2008, car currently has 177000 miles on it and I have had know problems with the vehicle. It is the third Hyundai I have owned and all have been very reliable .

As a volunteer driver this car is perfect. Easy in and out for some people. Good gas mileage. 215k and still drives like a new car. No major problems.

After having owned this car for 8 years now, I still would say that the Hyundai Sonata has been a good car. At around 50,000 miles, the starter went out. I was shocked, but it was only about $350 to have it fixed. Then, last year at around 75,000 miles, many of the plastic hinges they put in the car broke. This was very annoying and pretty expensive. Around $600 (mostly in labor), as like I said, the parts were cheap. Considering these expenses, I still feel pretty good about the car, given that many other reviews on more expensive brands show major transmission problems before the cars even get to 75,000 miles.
