Only owned a year
Only had this car ONE YEAR and feels like this car has been in the shop more than I’ve got to drive it. Radio and screen gave out on me after 2 months, refuses to fix it and quoted me 1500. Engine blew, been in the shop 3 weeks as I’m left carless after being so excited about buying my first car. I’m very upset I didn’t dig deeper into my research because this car is so unreliable. I’ve probably spent hundreds of dollars on just putting more and more oil in my car. I have to fill the oil up about ever 3-4 days. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TROUBLESOME CAR!!!

Radio Unit Screen Unit is poor
I purchased my Sonata in 2016. Within 6 months the Car Radio & Screen Unit stopped working and I had to get it replaced by Hyundai. Three years later the same thing happened and I ended up having to get the whole unit replaced again by Hyundai. I have in the last 4 weeks had the Car radio / Screen unit break down yet again. This has resulted in the loss of the cars radio, loss of a reversing camera, maps and GPS and loss of hands free phone calls. I have contacted Hyundai for a replacement unit yet again as I believe there must be a fault in the electrics or in the radio unit. Hyundai have now said that the car is out of warranty and it is not their problem and that I have to pay for the replacement unit. However I have said that this equates to three radio / screen units I have had broken in 6 years. Hence the average life cycle of my Hyundai radio unit / screen unit has been 2 years from having a new car. There is obviously a fault somewhere in the system I have investigated and there is no after market units available from 3rd Party car accessory companies in Aussie. Hence I have to go back to Hyundai and pay $900 to buy a unit and then pay extra to get it installed by someone (or else I pay Hyundai). I would note that none of my friends who have Toyotas, Fords etc have had to replace their Radio/Screen Units and some of them have had their cars for over 8 years.

Best automobile I’ve owned.
This is on a 2004 Sonota that has 191,000 miles. I bought it new and it has never been back to the dealership for a warranty issue. It has 2.7 v-6 and doesn’t use any oil between oil changes. This by far has been the best car I have ever owned. Good gas mileage, I’m 6’3” and has plenty of leg room. Yes I would buy another.

Quality car
Owned our Sonata since October 2017, and it had 38k on it. Now it just clicked over 100k and it's been a great car so far! On a good day, I can get up to 44 MPG and about 25 city. Power is good (2.4 engine), tackles inclines well, and keeps up with traffic. Interior is well thought out and fairly comfortable. We just came back from a 3,300 mile summer road trip and had absolutely no issues! I do all my own maintenance which means it gets meticulously maintained. My #1 complaint is oil consumption. PLEASE CHECK YOUR OIL REGULARLY. If not, you can kiss your engine goodbye! Only issues I've had were two dead batteries but other than routine maintenance, I can believe that this car will achieve 200,000 miles! Take care of your car and it will take care of you!

Lemon
The 2026 Sonata has too many problems. Signal lights that may give just the opposite of what it should, goes into limp mode and the dealerships don't want to deal with the problems, a class action suit was filed because of the motor and electrical problems. It has been nine months that my car has been at the dealership and they refuse to fix the car. Hundai headquarters in California is of no help. I previously had a Hundai Santa Fe and it was fine. The Hundai Sonata when it runs like it should and has a smooth ride and plenty of power. My car's vin number was on the list for approval of fixing the problems. 9 months later it is still at the dealership. Very poor service
