Will last forever, if you have a few tools
I looked for my '98 XJ for almost a year before I found my dream machine. I had never even driven one before, but I researched them so in depth that I knew exactly what to look for just by the pics. My XJ is exactly 20-years-old with 160k mi.. They definitely have a list of quirks and I HIGHLY recommend you become familiar with Jeep forums, especially the Cherokee forum. Jeeps are not designed for luxury (probably why the Grand Cherokee has the fastest depreciation value of ANY vehicle) and you either need to know how to turn a wrench or fork out some money. Most Jeep owners stay away from the latter. Parts are cheap and the labor is elementary, but a garage is going to charge you the same hourly rate and time as they would a Mercedes. When you have a problem go to the forums. After you've gained some knowledge, YouTube will be your best friend!

I love my 1998 Jeep !!!
This is my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. It is emerald green. I love the color. I love the way it drives. It has an amazing turning radius. I love working on it. I changed the 6 spark plugs in less than an hour. I love my Jeep. It is my 3rd and my favorite Jeep. It is 20 years old and still going strong. I definitely recommend this vehicle. I wish they never stopped making this body style with the inline 6 engine.

Owned since May, 1999.
I bought the Jeep with 18,000 miles on it and paid $18,000 for it in May, 1999. I'm the 2nd owner. The vehicle now has 165, 796 miles on it as of today. The Jeep has had excellent care and garaged daily since bought up until April, 2017. It still has great original paint, no major engine, transmission or differential problems, and runs great. Through over 18 years ownership, it only broke down twice, needing to be towed. Finally, it has taken my son and daughter everywhere they had to go and hauled wood, mowers, and everything thrown at it. Unbelieveable traction in snow. Might just not part with it.

Best car I ever owned...I wish it could be cloned
I own a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport...this exact model. I have been contemplating for years buying another car, but I have a very hard time giving this one up. It has 200,000 miles, and hasn't given me a lick of trouble (except of course for the normal things that fail after a number of years..e.g. water pump/radiator, etc.). I wish that the current Jeeps had the roominess and reliability as this one does. I have hauled more things in the back of this Jeep than you could imagine (like a queen size bed!). I can't say enough about his vehicle.

Great for Value!
I live in Fargo, ND. We are voted #1 for worst winters and my 1998 Sport tears through the snow like butter. My AC does fail once a year but its a $40 fix. I have Firestone Destination AT's on my Jeep and they amaze me. I love how simple the interior is, its plain and simple. The 4 liter engine is a hog too with a straight six. My mom has a 2004 Grand Cherokee with a 3.7 and mine is a lot meaner. A flaw that I wish it had was Full-Time 4 wheel drive. It was Part-Time instead. I mean it gets the job done, works perfectly but when he turn on pavement with it, the steering wheel jolts back and forth grinding the gears and will reset your electric shifting sensor which shuts off 4 wheel drive completely. But all in all, its a great suv for under $5,000. Highly recommend for young drivers or on a budget.

Value for the money
Really like the jeep! Great power, great turning radius!!! only had 1 problem and that was an alternator. Not and expensive fix, had mine rebuilt for 60 bucks! And they aren't the best for gas mileage but who really worries about that when your family is riding with you? Very dependable and would recommend to every1!
