Speedometer sensor problems
I have had my 2003 Jeep Liberty back to the dealer four times for a failed sensor that is connected to the speedometer. Apparently this sensor is mounted on the rear axles (which had to be replaced but under the warranty). Don't know if anyone else has had this problem but it started in August 2006, again in June 2007, April 2008 and now I will be returning it this week to the dealer to have the sensor replaced again. I think it's time to replace the whole speedometer, but I was told that there might be something on the flywheel. Not an expert on mechanical problems myself but I try to keep educated. This is also a low mileage vehicle as with today's gas prices I am limiting my driving as I only get about 14 mpg around town. Ugh!

Disappointed in AZ
I special ordered this vehicle after my 1st Jeep Liberty Renegade was destroyed in a traffic accident. I was very happy with it for 3 years; however, I began to experience serious mechanical issues with the vehicle right after the warranty expired! First, the 5 speed transmission bit the dust, then the A/C Compressor (crucial in Arizona) flamed out. I've spent 3K in repairs in 4 1/2 years!

Reliable during the early years
Plan to extend the warranties or trade it in shortly after the warranties expire. I would recommend this vehicle to a friend who leases or trades in a car after 3 years. If planning to purchase to this vehicle new, don't finance past 36 months or 42 at the most.

True to the name
This Jeep is true to its name. It has excellent performance and looks good at what it does. The Liberty will take you where ever you want and do it comfortably. To me it rides better then the Escape and the Rav4. I can go places where my friends cant and i dont have to worry about getting stuck like they do.

Thrifty SUV
I love the Liberty!! When I seen the Sport, and from what I heard, it was a base model, but the one i got was very well equipped. I got the four cylinder model... most people think 150hp for a truck this size doesn't perform well, but it provides plenty of pep. Not to mention 27 MPG!!
