A Amazing car with potential

Where to start... Well I have had a few issues. My number one is the "smoking " issue which the car will create a plume of smoke after spirited driving , it is soooo humiliating. Everything else is great! I mean for the price you get so much. I have gone with a full exhaust, intake and a new blow off. I need to change it back to recirc mode which reminds me, and totally recommend a cobb accessport which is idiot proof and when removed wont show any change at the dealership. I love my car. zoom zoom.

most unreliable car I've ever owned

Wow this car has been so unreliable to me, running back and forth to the dealership. First it was the tires, it was wearing out faster than usual, after replacing it out of my own pocket after 8000 miles on it, then the bolt holding the rear differential bracket some how sheared off. Dealership won't even warranty it, they consider it as abuse. they want over 2500 to fix this!! I rarely punch on it, just occasionally on and off ramp to get up to busy highway speed. The E brake always gets stuck when I pull it up and park it for a night. I always have to break it loose backing out. The steering is now making a clunking noise as if something is loose, have not got that checked out yet. The car hesitate occasionally and the gearbox is horrible. Recalls after recall. I recommend you do some research before buying the car or any car. time for me to trade this junk in.

Best Bang for the money

I looked at a lot of cars including the BMW, Acura, and Audi. The Speed 6 had all of the things I wanted for $12K less (after year end clearance rebates and discounts which other car makers did not provide to consumers). I just love driving the car!! The pick up, handling, and the stero system all makes the car an enjoyable ride. The look of the front makes the car look sharp. Somebbody told me that it looks like a wild animal. I chosed the platinum color which makes it look like more luxury. I would recommend it to everybody if they were shopping for a sport-luxury sedan. Now the true test is the reliability which I can not comment on yet since I only had the car for 3 months.

Do Not do the Recall

I fully agree with everyone stating that the zoom- zoom is gone after the recall, even my wife asked me what happened with the car and she didn't know about the recall....!!!! After reading other reviews I tried to stay away from doing the recall but since the car needed aligment and 2 new tires under warranty I had no choice but to take it to Mazda and evendo I was promised by the service department that they would not do the recall ,they still did it. Now it is a different car and I don't think I would have bought it if the performance been like this when I test drove the car.

Sweet!

I bought my Speed6 at the end of July and it's been a blast every day I've owned it. I am not sure about the "recall" ECU upgrade being an issue - I bought mine after the upgrade came out and have percieved no issues. I did have a fuel line pressurization pump go bad 2 weeks after I bought it - it's only on when the car is off as a condensation prevention device so it did not affect driving, and was replaced within an hour and a half of the warning light coming on. OK..on to the car itself. It is indeed a sleeper - the other Mazda6'es out there have bigger spoilers and such than this car - this is the one with the bigger tires, better brakes, internal chassis stiffening and better suspension...and oh that motor! A 3.2 4Cyl with an intercooled K04 turbo that, as one reviewer already mentioned, feels like a V8. I mean, it just goes and goes. The all wheel drive really applies the power well and it never feels like the car is pulled or pushed - it just GOES. I got the "base" model, without the DVD navigation and the sunroof. I came from a New Beetle Turbo S, another car with a turbocharged 4 cyl and a 6 speed manual transmission, and it was an effortless transition. Shifting is not as smooth as say a Honda, but it is satisfying as all manuals should be. Handling is very good for a sedan - I suggest you look for the Top Gear review on YouTube to see the car in action. It is very confortable on the 3-4 hour drives I find myself on, and gas mileage is a bit better that I thought it would work out to be when I can keep my foot off of the pedal. There is a built in sunglass holder and a dual center storage box I really like. A nicely covered center drink holder is a nice touch although its a little skittish to close and open if you are not paying attention to it. The seat adjusts in height as well as the normal ways, and the tilt/telescope wheel is fantastically designed - so important in a sports sedan! Single zone climate control works well. Back seat held 3 teens last night comfortably, and the center arm rest has drink holders for the kids and works well. Consider this car if you are looking for a true sports sedan and are more interested in bang for the buck than a badge to polish. It beats the BMWs in it's price range hands down. I consider it an Audi A4 Quattro ride for around 15 grand less.

Zoom-Zoom No More

My wife and I, both retired, purchased our Speed6 in June. We loved everything about the car; the styling, safety features, turbocharged engine, 6 speed manual transmission, all wheel drive, traction and stability control, handling, audio system. The great acceleration was the icing on the cake. It was especially noticeable during passing on 2 lane roads and while merging with interstate traffic. But no more. That was before Mazda implemented recall 4106E, issued in July. The recall was supposed to eliminate the possibility of engine knocking by reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module, that is, changing the ignition timing resulting in smoother acceleration. The recall was classified (disguised) as an emission recall so we dutifully had the recall performed in August. The result was a dramatic reduction in acceleration! The acceleration is much slower without a hint of the turbocharger kicking in. This is not the same vehicle we purchased. While we still like all the other features of the car, the loss in acceleration is enough that we cannot recommend the Speed6 to anyone, most certainly not to a friend. Shame-Shame on Mazda for taking the Zoom-Zoom out of our Speed6!

what's not to love?

This car is hands-down the most value for the money in its class. Dyno tests have shown this car to roughly be putting out the same horsepower as the WRX STi... oh yeah - it's ~$10,000 cheaper than the WRX STi. I got mine for 22,900. Also, the power comes in EARLY... as in 2,500 RPMs. If I wanted to buzz around revving to 5,000 RPMs every time I wanted some power - or if I wanted a gaudy park bench for a spoiler - or if I wanted a sky high insurance rate because every 15 year old in a tilted hat and pink polo shirt with popped collar was buying it - I would have opted for the Sti or Evo. This car has the hint of some class - no wonder it's so unpopular with the teenagers. I cannot speak to the reliability as this is the first year the car has been made. I have had no issues so far.
