300,000 miles and still going.

Completely impressed by the reliability of the 240D. The car has 300,000 miles and still drives well. Yeah there?s a few things that I would change, like acceleration, 0-60 in an hour. But driving the car is a lot of fun. It feels like you?re driving a yacht on wheels.

A Classic Indeed

The Mercedes-Benz 240D is one of its original diesels. It was a redesign of a military vehicle for the civilian market. The engine is known to go a million kilometers. The styling is classic; it is very easy for do-it-yourselfers to work on, it is mechanical---no newfangled gadgetry to go haywire. Everything is mechanical except the keylock system, which operates on a vacuum. The car must be locked from the driver's door, eliminating the possibility of locking yourself out. If you get a good one, and are handy or sufficiently well-to-do, it is definitely a keeper. Also, it can run on biodiesel fuel, or can be modified to run on vegetable oil!
