Best in class?

While a lot of magazine articles claim Audi's Q5 is category leader, I'm not so convinced. I test drove every rival, before settling on the GLK, based on the overall driving experience. I strongly considered the Audi, but in the end, the lack of rear visibility, questionable reliability and steep price put me off.

Back from the Wilderness

MB appears to be emerging from its 15 years in the wilderness of building to price points. The GLK is a return to what MB used to do best: bank-vault solidity, ultra-high quality and bullet-proof reliability. Numerous competitive vehicles can beat the GLK on various performance and utility metrics, but nothing compares in terms of a complete package or overall quality. First Mercedes in many years that makes you wonder why you would consider any other brand.

Exceptional Value

I am a car nut and have owned more than 18 cars in my life. This is the first Mercedes Benz product for me. Since I've owned my GLK now for 7 months I believe I can say it is the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. It is very comfortable and the build quality is outstanding. The GLK feels very solid. The first time you shut the door you can tell its built like a tank. Its road manners are very good. Especially considering it has 20" wheels on it. If your planning on buying a GLK be sure to get it with the premium1 package as this gives you the most features you would expect in a car of this class. The seats in this car are the BEST I have ever sat in. My back usually hurts after awhile in most cars. But not in the GLK. It is a smaller CUV and that makes it easy to manuever and park in tight spaces. It does pretty good in the snow even with the 20" wheels and all season tires. Gas mileage is not that good but since I don't drive alot, usually 20 miles a day to and from work, this is not a big deal for me. I usually have to fill up once a week or week and a half. I love how the front seats lift really high upwards when you want to vacuum the interior. It makes it very easy to keep the interior clean. I am a clean freak and prefer to keep my cars clean at all times. If your interested in the GLK try to find a certified used one. There are a few around and certified gets you the 100K mile warranty.

2010 GLK350 AWD

Great exterior styling and handling. Traded '07 GL450 and miss size/power a bit, but GLK350 is a great car. Not as plush inside vs. competition in the price range. Do feel brake motion as others have described, but not a problem.

My GL shrunk, no, it's a GLK and that's ok

I wasn't sure about the GLK when I first saw it. I had a 2007 C230, had plans to go to the current C300, but saw the GLK at the dealer and kept looking at it... then I drove it, then I felt comfy, then it went on the freeway C300 fast, then it glided over bumps, then it zoomed through corners pretending it was a C300, then I saw the usual soccer mom cars in this class and realized that it was aggressive in comparison, and, well, then I was hooked. Then they showed me one in green loaded to the teeth, and now I own it. The driving and braking take some getting used to, but you settle into it and it is feeling good now. The styling is funky, the interior is old school throwback but still feels good. Command dial becomes a thing of the past as you learn to talk to the car. I think the handling could be better for some, but for me it seems to work. Why did I buy it? Tired of hawling plants for my house in my smaller car. Live in Texas, tired of being in a small car in a sea of pickups on the road. And, I like comfort, sport performance when I feel like it, and a snazzy and memorable car. Mine is jade green, definitely stands out, feeling good with the comments I get, even when they don't know it is my car - you can buy any color but jade green. :)

Most Disappointing Auto I've Owned

Comfortable enough and all that, okay. Homelink system has been engineered so that it won't open the gate into my neighborhood. Navigation system offers mostly very wide address ranges instead of allowing users to zero in on a specific address. This expensive system is nearly useless in Las Vegas, where I live. Along with these features, the SUV is very unremarkable. I am very disappointed with this auto and would never buy another Mercedes.

2010 GLK350

Bought mine in March 2009 - finishing up a lease on a previous SUV, so only have about 600 miles on it as of Aug09.. but, very nice ride - car like, and quiet inside. Quality seems very good. Only minor negatives - relatively small ext. mirrors and brake pedal has to travel a bit farther than I'm accustomed.. although actual braking is fine. Overall, a nice ride for the $$.
