Fine grand touring classic

The 1998 MB SL 500 has style and luxury as well as performance and economy...all in one car. The performance is outstanding with incredible low end torque. This is no light weight at 2 tons plus but accerlation is effortless. Smooth ride with bank vault-like quiet performance. At 315 hp & 347 ft/lbs torque it'll get you where you are going quickly and safely. At less than $20,000 for a flawless example, it's a joy to drive and a pleasure to own. You could buy a new one for about $100K or a pre-Chrysler MB SL 500 for a fraction of the price and enjoy it just about the same.

love my 500

Have always wanted one of these. It's a great car for cruising. Love the power. Can't wait to take the top off. And the gas mileage is great considering it's a v8. Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Great for a weekend toy

Kinda hard to get in and out of. Only major problem is the hydraulic cylinders that operate the roof locks go out easily. In my opinion Mercedes should have recalled these because when they bust. It leaks fluid all over those leather seats. Awesome handling and descent power. Cant beat the styling though.

Refinement, power and pleasure

The SL style will hold up forever. It it elegant and sporting without trying to hard. Beautiful lines are graceful and you can't help but notice it. The 600 was almost $40K more expensive than the 500 when purchased new. But on the used market it can be had for a few thousand dollars more. The reason, is maintenance is a little higher because of the bigger engine. IE. more spark plugs to change. But minor price for 80 more HP. Either car is great, but if you want to feel the torque of the legendary V12, buy one and you will will not regret it. Fantastic car. Exciting to drive. I stare at it still as it sits in my garage.. Beautiful...
