Expert 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor review

Vehicle Overview
Shortly after introducing its compact Outlander sport utility vehicle, Mitsubishi added a larger “crossover” SUV. Similar in size to the automaker’s seven-passenger Montero, the midsize Endeavor is intended primarily for on-road motoring. A dual-range transfer case is not included, so offroad capabilities are limited.

A mid-2004 update gave the Endeavor an additional 10 horsepower and more standard features, including a tire-pressure monitor and daytime running lights. For 2005, all models get seat-mounted side-impact airbags and the XLS edition adds an anti-theft system.

Three trim levels are available: the LS, midrange XLS and top-of-the-line Limited. Each is offered with either front- or all-wheel drive.

Exterior
Mitsubishi describes the exterior as “sophisticated, intimidating, yet handsome.” A particularly bold front end features a louvered grille that leads to accent lines along the hood. Large wheel openings and creased wheel arches are present. Cast-aluminum wheels hold 17-inch tires.

The Endeavor rides a 108.3-inch wheelbase and has 8.3 inches of ground clearance. The bumper garnish is black on the LS, chrome-plated on the XLS and body-colored on the Limited, which also features fog lamps. The Endeavor has a fully independent suspension and all-disc brakes. A power sunroof is standard on the Limited.

Interior
Five occupants fit inside the Endeavor. Rear passengers get a 60/40-split, folding backseat. Cargo capacity behind the rear seat is 40.7 cubic feet, which grows to 76.4 cubic feet when the seat is folded down. The back window opens independently of the liftgate.

At night, the center controls emit blue backlighting. The XLS is equipped with such extras as premium cloth upholstery, a power driver’s seat and a 315-watt stereo with a six-CD changer. Leather seating surfaces and backseat climate controls are installed in the Limited edition.

Under the Hood
The Endeavor’s 3.8-liter V-6 generates 225 hp and 255 pounds-feet of torque. The four-speed-automatic transmission incorporates a Sportronic manual-gear-change provision. Models with all-wheel drive have a viscous coupling. Towing capacity is 3,500 pounds in all-wheel-drive Endeavors equipped with the Towing Prep Package.

Safety
Antilock brakes are optional on the front-drive LS and standard on all other versions. Side-impact airbags are standard. An Active Skid and Traction Control electronic stability system is optional on the all-wheel-drive Limited.

Driving Impressions
Overall, the Endeavor is a surprisingly enjoyable vehicle of manageable size. It handles with a light touch and maneuvers with agility in corners. Ride quality beats the class norm, thanks to a somewhat cushiony suspension.

The V-6 engine delivers a satisfying burst of power when needed for passing. Mitsubishi’s automatic transmission yields prompt, confident responses that are devoid of awkwardness.

Visibility is great all around. Front headroom is good, even in models equipped with a sunroof. The seats are softly cushioned, with only modest bolstering and mediocre support. Backseat space is roomy at the sides and tolerable in the center. The interior looks a little on the cheap side with a rough edge or two, but the controls are clear and the gauges are easy to read.

  • Most reliable vehicle I owned.

Purchased 2005 Mitsubishi Endeavor Limited Edition vehicle in 2004. I still have my vehicle in 2020. I wanted to purchase SUV for family travel. I was the first customer who had test driven my vehicle which coinincedentally came straight from its manufactures that same day. I like to think that was a sign for me to purchase this vehicle. I also investigated what kind of SUV would be safe and lasting. I had one too many bad experiences with a pre-used vehicle. I been recieving maintnance service every 3000 miles at Mitsubishi Parts and Service Department since 1990 when I purchased my first Mitsubishi vehicle.

  • Very disappointed in the overall vehicle

This vehicle is driven short distances every day. Consequently it’s a 2005 Endeavor limited with only 70,000 miles and always garaged . (Currently 2019) The transmission failed at 60,000 miles with no help from the manufacture. The traction control system is worthless, there is no gradual increase or decrease in power or distribution of power. It’s either on or off with no in between. It’s like driving a bucking bronco. Although this may be nitpicking you would think a limited would have an automatic dimming rear view mirror. This is the old conventional lever for day and night driving. The information system mounted in the center of the dash cannot be read during the day. The air conditioner evaporator core had to be replaced at 65,000 miles due to corrosion Resulting from a plugged drain which caused dried leaves and debris buildup. Took three trips back to the dealer to get the drain operational. The sunroof does not seal properly consequently leaks water when it’s raining or when taken through the car wash. The fact that they discontinued building this vehicle should tell you something. Recommend sticking with the major brands .

  • Most reliable vehicle I have EVER owned

I have owned this vehicle for 10 years. Besides regular maintenance, this vehicle has had very little issues. I am in the process of getting the coil packs replaced along with plugs and wires. The only downfall is that it seems to go through tires quickly.

  • Transmission issue

We like the car, very comfortable. But at 124,000 the transmission needs to be replaced and everything on the vehicle is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. The blower fan also went out at the same time.

  • Fun Drive but watchout!

I bought this car in 2008 with 56K miles on it. I love this car because it is a smooth ride. Like other reviewers have noted, this vehicle is powerful and roomy - we have taken this car all over the US and now at 98K miles it drives just a well as when we bought it (albeit 2 sets of tires later). This car has some flaws that are hard to avoid: 1) condensation from the air conditioner flows into the car under the floor mats 2) we've had to replace 3 window regulators (at $350/each) and 3) we've had to replace to 2 car door handles ($50/each). These aside I recommend it...we've had no major problems such as engine or transmission.

  • The Endeavor

Love the roominess and big feeling, though it isn't one of the mega-sized SUVs with 3 seats or poor gas mileage. The 2nd row folds near flat for hauling whatever and for this old of a vehicle I was impressed that there are two outlets (like for phone chargers) in front, one in the 2nd row and one in the back. There are hooks that are flush to the floor when not in use in the cargo area that are perfect for my dog's leash. These vehicles come in LS (very basic) and SE (sun roof, heated cloth seats, electric seats and mirrors, etc.). We got the SE and I was disappointed that it seemed to have everything extra that I wanted except radio controls on the steering wheel-then my son found them! They are on the back of the steering wheel like where you'd use your fingers to control them as opposed to your thumbs. Way cool. I love sitting up higher and I know the transmission was flushed right before we got it as it needed that, but it seems to run great at 14,000 miles and going strong.

  • You wont believe it until you drive it

This is my 2nd Endeavor and i cant tell u how amazed I was with this vehicle. Compared to other SUV's, the room & space is plenty comfortable, pack able and so flexible! For a V6 the power that it has both 2 wheel and AWD is like having a V8. It handles so smooth and can pick up with speed without a slip, spit or sputter! The car is beautiful in the inside, great lighting through out the whole car, It has security light features that most cars dont My biggest complaint with this car is the seats r not powered so im unable to move up or down. Other then tht, MY FAV CAR EVR!

  • About the Truck

I chose this over a Nissan Pathfinder (the main competitor if your looking for a reliable, fast and roomy truck) I was very fortunate to find one is Pristine condition with 65,000 miles for 10,500USD with original paint intact and its the AWD version (the best in my opinion). The Interior is very refined, somewhat simple and feels Very comfortable on the eyes and its very roomy compared to my other option The visibility is almost perfect, everything is 100% fully visible when you apply a round Mirror sticker to the Driverside Mirror. It feels like a VERY solid truck, as soon as I got it, I got all of my belts changed, Peace of mind, I know that It will not break for the next 60-70K miles, It feels like a new truck, drives and sounds like one, so Im very sure of the reliability of my car. for 10.5K + 700USD + about 2500$ for registry and taxes, for a car like this, in this kind of shape, im EXTREAMLY SATISFIED.

  • Best performance for a truck

this truck is the best in anything, from speeding up on the highways to climbing up the hills. the only thing that i didn't like about the car is the resale value, besides that i think im going to be keeping this truck for a very long time. It's a little tight in the back for a person who's 6ft. but i'm always driving so it doesn't make a difference. It handles like a sports car, very quick and stays balanced...perfect truck in my eyes

  • Most Reliable Car I've Owned

I purchased my Endeavor back in December 2005 and fell in love with the gas mileage that it gets. I can fill up the 21.4 gallon tank and drive to Charlotte, NC.,and still would have the tank register between full and 3/4 of a tank of gas.
