Explore the 2003 Nissan Xterra

Fun to drive but needs maintained a lot.

I got a 2001 nissan xterra 173,000 miles from an auction. A few cosmetic problems but was really fun to drive. gas mileage was xxxxty 12-13 city 14-17 highway. But was a great car. drove it for 10,000 miles and then broke down. needed a fuel pump and new distributor and then decided to get a 2003 nissan xterra. needed a tune up and transmission after going for 205,000 miles, but once it was fixed, definetely worth driving.

2003 Xterra

I did have to get my super charged Xterra's exhaust manifold replaced and had a couple of hiccups with the distributor, but hey, it is 2020, and the truck is a 2003. Once I got those items taken care of, this thing will run! I love it. Mine is the SE version as well, so it has all the bells and whistles on it. Leather interior, etc. Now, being a super charged Xterra, it does kind of like it's gas. But, I get better MPG by using premium. Over all, I wouldn't think of trading it in right now. I used to own a Frontier, and that is pretty much what this is, but an SUV.

I loved my Xterra. Best vehicle I ever owned.

It was the most reliable vehicle I ever had. I have had it for 4 years. Especially being a used vehicle. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. I would love to own another one. I passed mine down to my daughter because I wanted her and my grandchildren in a vehicle I know she can take anywhere because it is safe and I can put all my trust because I know my family is in the best vehicle there is. That's why I gave it to my daughter. As long as she is in the Xterra I know I never have to worry about her, I know she will get where ever she needs to go. Safety and reliability. The only problem I have with the Xterra. Is I miss mine, and I want another one. I have driven it long enough, I have total faith and trust, it is the most reliable and best SUV ever. It was so much fun to drive. Get you one, because you will love it. And you will never want to drive anything else. I am looking for another one to buy, and I just don't see me settling for anything less.

Great daily driver and off roader

The car drives quite well for being a 16 year old Japanese SUV. One downside is its top heavy, and can flip easily if you take sharp corners quickly, however, upgrading the built in sway bar solves that because the stock one just sucks. The 4 wheel drive works great on snow and off roading, and the 3.3 liter V6 engine is more than enough power for this 2 ton beast.

Good Off Road car if you don't want a jeep

This car has been reliable besides knock sensors going out in a pretty short time. Not a huge deal except they are a pain to get to. Yes you can relocate them, but that defeats the purpose of even having them. This vehicle does very well rock crawling as long as you have the ac off. Otherwise it likes to overheat going that slow with that much demand for torque. It's not a completely built up Jeep, but for a stock vehicle it can handle very harsh trails with relative ease. On road this thing gets terrible gas mileage, I typically get 13-14 with a little city driving but mostly highway. It has very, very, very limited power. It just can't really get out of its own way. Especially at higher speeds after it runs out of its low gearing advantage it will struggle. It can tow, light weights. I wouldn't tow to its max because it doesn't have the power, cooling capability, or stability to handle the weight. It handles decently when unloaded. It's definitely a better ride than a Wrangler. Usability of this vehicle is pretty good as long as you don't put large people in the back. It doesn't have a ton of passenger space. It is a 5 seater, but that should only be if you absolutely have to carry 5 people. There is good space behind the rear seats for all sorts of gear. The factory headliner is also prone to falling down. I just replaced it with a new one and used a high quality headliner glue and no problems yet. If you're just buying this vehicle for a daily driver, there are much better options. If you want to go on off road excursions and take it for camping trips and even tow a light atv trailer then it does pretty well. You are not going to go anywhere fast, but it will get there and get you back home with no issue.

Excellent vehicle

I really enjoy driving this vehicle. We had 8 inches of snow today and it was great to be able to go where I wanted without worrying about getting stuck!
