ok but not worth the price tag
Ok, I have lived and learned. I bought a new xterra and made a big mistake. The pros: It performs well, easy to drive, great engine, fast, great breaking and great turning radius. Overall good performer for driving off road. The cons: there are a lot or them...It's made cheap, it's scratches bad in the interior, the paint is cheap, plastic on the bumpers are cheap, the carpet is not even, you feel every road bump in the body of the vehicle, it has poor insulation, it rattles, the dash and the door panels move and shake and it has no options (even the fully loaded ones have no technology or options). I have had cars 10 to 12 years older that have more options, better technlology and better constuction. It is an ok vehicle if you buy one used for about 17k but new is a mistake. It was not worth the 30k. It drives like a 10 yr old truck, but worse construction and less options. I will say this, most newer cars are made just as cheap and they rattle and scratch as well but the xterra is not worth the new price tag. If you have a second vehicle go buy an older xterra or just a beat up truck because that is what this car looks like after about 6months. The engine and mechanics are good but everthing else is like a cheap korean car.

XCheap
My wife owns a 2009 XTerra and I own a 2007 FJ Cruiser. In comparing the two, the XTerra is not as smooth of a ride on the highway (and it has highway tires on it, the FJ has all terrain tires which are noisy but the FJ is smooth) The FJ performs better on trails (like it or not to you other XTerra advocates out there). The interior of the XTerra IS cheap, like it or not, and scratches easily, as well the seats are cheap material and not resistant to water like the FJ. The FJ can be sprayed inside with a hose to wash it down...The XTerra does have better rear visibility, and the rear seats are similar...they suck in both vehicles for adults, especially entering and exiting the vehicle. Front seats are more comfortable in the FJ. The XTerra is slightly better on gas unless you drive it hard, I drive both of them hard and they are both horrible on fuel when driven anything but like a granny. When it comes to these two, it comes down to preference because they are quite similar, I personally prefer my FJ, and the FJ is also of higher build quality.

The only true SUV out there.
After test driving just about every SUV out there, including high end luxury Lexus, 4 runners and audis, I chose the xterra. The xterra rides like a truck but performs like a sports car! The turning radius is amazing, it stop on a dime and with 9.5 inches of clearance it still sticks the road and handles like it is on rails. The 0-60 speed is amazing and this truck will through into the back of your seat. Plus the realibility is there!! Since 2005 the xterra has won just about every award available, consumer reports love it, it has good resale and it is the only off-road vehicle that is comfortable enough to be a daily driver. The only down side it the plastic cargo area but it's ease to fix with a rubber floor mat. The rest of the interior is well assembled and I have had no rattles or scratches. The interior is modern and refeshing, with crome inlays, stereo, controls have nice back lighting and comfortable seats.

Great SUV !
I purchased a 2010 xtrerra about 8 months ago and love it!! It drives amazing and not a single problem. I am not sure what the other guy was saying about the interior being cheap? Look at all the other good reviews. People use these vehicles for skiing, off roading and moutain sports. I have no idea what a guy from Boston knows about this. I live in Colorado and the mountains are part of my life. The interiors on xterra are great! Easy to clean! Besides, have you seen the interiors on 4runners and Honda Pilots? Talk about cheap! Take it from someone that actually OWNS an xterra. This is a true SUV. Drive it and you will see. Amazing for those that want to be active. If you are city slicker, probably not the best choice. Get a bmw or something you can keep safe in the garage at nights. The xterrra is a man's SUV!

Xterrable
I have been shopping for a new Xterra to replace my 2004. Fortunately, this 2010 model (and everything beyond my 2004) offers a bigger powerplant and more horse power. After extensive online research over the past 6 months, I mapped out and recently visited 13 (across 4 States) dealerships, where I test drove 20 Xterras (2009 and 2010). I loved the exterior styling, and alot of improvements over the previous models. However, the one glaring issue is the cheap interior...really cheap. EVERY vehicle I viewed had extensive scratches on the interior. Whatever material Nissan is using for the entire interior plastic is garbage. Every vehicle that I drove (100%) had interior scratches. Alot of them. Each scratch probably tells a tale, like one from the jacket you have with a metal button on the sleeve that rubbed the door, or the time you dropped your keys onto the center console, etc. The point is, it appeared as though it didn't take much to completely wreck the interior. Initially I thought it was just people who didn't care about their Xterras, as I care about my older model. I have decided against buying a new Xterra and will be looking at other competitors. I can not say I am sad, as my 2004 has seen it's share of work at the dealership. I was hoping for better results with a newer model, but if the interior material speaks to the quality of the overall vehicle, it's a good decision to stay away.

2010 Xterra
This vehicle is possible the best SUV deal around for teh price and what it offers and has. THE Xterra won out in a Consumer Reporst road test against other vehicles as the Jeep, H3, FJ, Lexus and a Explorer. It won overall best. The fit and trim on the SE are great. It has a comfrotable leather seats and a very roomy cabin. I had previously owned a 1997 Pathfinder and the new Xterra is actually roomier and larger than the older Pathfinder. It comes with a great stereo system with XM radio and an IPOD interface. The ride is smooth but, handles more like a truck than a car at times which is refreshing. The sightlines are great, You have great visibility in all directions and it sits up suprisingly higher than one would think. Fits 5 easily and had plenty of storage room in the back. It actually tows suprisingly well and can handle up to 5,000 lbs without any issues. I would say the only con is the gas mileage as it is with all SUV's...It averages about 15 - 16 miles per gallon. The payoff on all the other pros is well worth the one minor issue with the gas mileage.

Best off road vehicle available
This is the best off road vehicle out there! I test drove an FJ and it was under powered with very poor visability and the back seat, well..it was a joke. My buddy has a jeep Rubicon and it can't go on the highway and very unreliable. The x is in a class by it's self. Great off road and in town. It's bumpy for long highway trips but still a better ride than the competitors. I can do 80mph, no problem, and I pass the fjs and jeeps no sweat. Probably the funnest vehicle to drive that I have owned. I am getting bad gas milage but the engine is breaking in and milage is about the same with other SUVs.

good off roader with a few issues
Great SUV. This Suv can handle any conditions. I love driving in the snow and the stability control is great. The ride is great in town and off road. It's a bit bumpy on the highway but accelerates great when passing. The arm rests are very poorly placed and you really have no where to put your arms. My gas mileage is horrible but the dealer says the engine is still breaking in. If anyone else has an off road, please tell me it actually gets 15mpg when it breaks in? I am getting like 13mpg city/highway right now. I am not sure if they tested the off road package accurately with the bigger tires? I wish they would do away with the plastic cargo area. It scratches and is worthless.

Good truck with a few rattles
I trader my 08 nissan pathfinder for a new xterra off road. I wanted the off road ablility that my patty didn't have and I hoped to have less rattles. I have only had my xterra for a month and have a few regrets. It's a brand new car and it already rattles over bumps and pot holes. Maybe because mine is an off road addition? but still its a brand new car. Hope my warranty will cover it and I hope it will be reliable? It looks great and drives well but man, I can't get past the fact that a new car rattles in the dash and door pannels! Hopefully, its just a minor issue
