From Wide Track to Matter of Fact

After owning several Pontiac's beginning with the 1997 Wide Track Coupe Grand Prix, 2004 Gomp-G, and 2005 GXP. I was kinda sad to see the Grand Prix retired. Until I sat in the 2009 G8 GT we eventually purchased. The initial research began when we went to the Autoshow and saw the purple/Blue version pontiac was offering. We were not impressed. So we put the car on the back burner and staretd hunting for cars. After driving other not allowed to mention car makers, we went to the local neighborhood Pontiac store. From the rumble of the remote start to the way the bucket seats caress you, you realize this is not any of my previous Pontiacs. The 6.0 liter V8 purrs like a kitten that just greeted you after a long day of work. You know you are in for a treat when you switchblade the key and insert it into the ignition to ready her up. The vehicle we ended up with includes the 19" Summer only performance tires and all other available features. We took it out to the rural roads that wind and twist like a snake slithers. We drove it in Manual mode as to allow us to downshift and upshift with every curve. It handled the curves with great grip and agility. Stiff and competent were every manuver of the car. After we returned to the delaership we looked the car over and liked the massive trunk and reasonably large interior room. The lines are nearly perfect. The honeycomb grill accent on the front and rear remind you of the wheels of a 1977 trans am, yet current. A pontiac trait. The profile reminds you that you are looking at a poor mans BMW as written by some other reports. If you are looking for a 4 doors sedan that is roomy, energetic and has the ability to smoke the competition dont miss this car. Only wishes, Rear seat Entertainment, and Navigation. Even though offerd by Onstar would be nice to have own. Steering wheel controls leave little functionality to them. Radio and AC seem as if you were still in Austrailia because the power buttons are on the far right of the units. Seems petty but if this is all I can complain about you should be happy

Great bargain car!

I just recently got a G8 GT, just put 1000 miles on her today. The vehicle handles extremely well, the automatic is very nice and smooth though indecisive of sorts at times, but I do not mind it what so ever. I rated performance a 4 instead of a 5 because 1). no manual (YET) and 2). my GTO was quicker-and features a 4 since no Nav/DVD available yet. The electronic oil pressure and battery voltage display is a little tachy but no complaints. Being as it is built where the GTO was I expect the same superb reliability I got in the goat to cross-over into the G8. I'd recommend this car to anyone, family or for fun!

My G8 GT has driveline vibration problem!

I have a G8 GT that came with 4 out-of-round tires and a transmission that shifted into neutral while I was on the highway. Real fun! Then it locked up in third gear and I had to drive it back to the dealer in that condition. I now have a driveline vibration that comes and goes as you are maintaining a steady speed. This happens from 30mph up to 70mph. GM acknowledges the problem, but does not have a fix for it yet. No word when and if they ever will! I have less than 2000 miles on the car and am looking into trading it in. Love the car, but can not stand the vibration!

What's not to love.

Very little. Gripes are limited to a lack of features previous Pontiac owners are used to, like HUD, XM, DVD and Nav; the same hood being used for GT and base models (I fell that the scoops should be GT only); and some folks have expressed concern over the less than stellar shifting of the transmission (though I have no problem with it). Things to love list is much longer, but to keep this review reasonable, I will limit to just the top five. First, the engine...massive power and torque to start with, and easy to tune and mod for even more power. Next, the ride and handling is almost unmatched in any other cars that seat 5 and cost under 6 figures. Which leads to price, as $30k for a car that can hang with cars that cost double is a steal. Also, Ward's AutoWorld just announced that the G8 is nominated for their Interior of the Year Award. And last, being that this car is built in the same factory that the new GTO came from should lead to similar reliability, which has been great for me. Yes, I am a fan of this car. I am extremely biased abotu the G8. But I was not at first, as it took a look, a drive, and some number crunching when shopping comparable vehicles.

Head Turner G8 GT

This car has more interior room than any other sedan on the market. At 6'5'' the car is very comfortable and there is room for my wife and 2 kids. The G8 can be used as a family or muscle car. It has great looks and has speed to boot. All this at a great price!

A "fun to drive" sport sedan!

I have owned a Ford Mustang Cobra & Acura RL, and driven many different muscle cars and sports cars and I must say that the Pontiac G8 hits the mark in performance, styling, and comfort. I own the GT version with the 6.0L V-8 at 362HP. WIth the 6 speed automatic transmission, it is VERY quick off the line and fun to drive! I only own one car, so it has to be versatile and fun. The G8 is both. It is a sedan with plenty of interior room and an especially spacious trunk area. Yet, it is so much fun to drive! I was looking forward to seeing the G8, knowing that it is made by the same plant that produced the GTO. I was not let down at all when I saw it at the dealership. I bought the first one in Memphis, TN. The only area that I would say needs to be improved is some of the control displays. The oil pressure and battery displays look at little dated for a car of it's performance level. Otherwise, I think Pontiac has hit a home run here! For the money, you won't find anything comparable and it easily compares, performance wise, to the BMW 5 series which is $20k more than the G8.
